Embarrassed to say SAN Diego, Ca. But it makes having a vert cool. I may have ways to get it smogged, but if I can do it legit I won't worry every two years. The connections are still there, just no pump. Loaner cats may be available as another 5.0 goes through similar.
Cats here have to have a EO#. There are some legal badass cats, but not cheap.

Very cool project. Why not make it a fox version of the classic off road mustang in the Thomas Crown Affair? Do it tastefully, and that would be pretty sweet, given your background.

But.....
Minimum 6 shocks= 5-6k.
Beadlocks and tires = 3k.
Rack = 3-4K
Bumps = 1k
Uniballs and heims = 1K
Full tube chassis = 1k, plus 120 hrs.

Front 4130 sheet metal a-arms and bulk head = 500-1k plus 40-80 hrs.

Model new suspension and chassis = 40-80 hrs.

Pluming= 3k plus 30-40hrs.

Electrical = 3-5k plus 40-60 hrs. Or more!

Brakes = 3-5k
Lighting = 2k
Seats and harness 1200
Fuel cell = 1k
Rear end = 5k
Tin work = 1k
Hardware = 500
Filtration.......GPS....and on and on!

I can burn 30-50k in a snap just in parts, laser time and raw materials.

I can burn up to 80k with labor and hit 100k turn key without batting an eye.

Desert racing is an extremely expensive route.

But, OMG 4-5' of air at 60-90mph.......priceless!

Or about 80-100G!

Why are you embarrassed? I was born and raised in SD and lived there for 35 years. Having a family is the only thing that made me leave otherwise I'd still be a Glamis hound, surfing, and hanging out in Ensanada watching the Baja 250/500. Even with the crappy California government and no water it's still paradise in many ways.

It's a love hate, can't live anywhere else sort of thing. I'm spoiled in that I can be at the beach in 30min, and Ocotillo in an hour!

You must live in/near El Cajon or Ramona. I always loved the drive through the mountains via Santa Ysabel 78/79/S2. We avoided Julian and the mountain twisties since we all were towing. I grew up in Ramona FYI.

I am in Valley Center. It's a pretty drive after the grade stresses you out.

Been in Chicago training for a week. Now that I'm back in town I'll get the stang in its working stall and get some pics.

The plan is to clean up some wiring for safety.

Replace fuel line and filter.

Fix broken tilt column or replace.

New belt.
Then?
TBD today.

Still in investigative mode. Up on stands. Taking a look at what's what.
I'm new to the Fox so some things are not obvious, while others are blatantly.

That's the fuel line. May have warmed the fuel a wee bit.

This won't fly for me! I have never had a roll bar to sheet metal. I would like it to stay in the car when I need it! Heaven forbid if this ever went on its roof but I could picture it laying down the road from me.

These will have to go before any fun. Based on the pad wear, I'm guessing the adjustable bias is to the rear. Will have to sort that.

So, I sit hear realizing I have no beer. No plan and trying not to repeat my last uni-body. Got a little carried away from a set of sun frame connectors!

Trying not to be me, and go all nutso!
