AFR185 info

you car will be sweet w/ a 347 in it, put together with the right parts and it will rip! Eds a great guy to work with if your going to go the custom cam route I dealt w/ him a lot last summer w/ the cam he made for mine.

Going to be hitting the dyno this spring down in Concord w/ the new combo set up, you should make an appearance

A few things:

A 306 will be much cheaper than a 331 or 347, if you polish the crankshaft ($15) and resize the rods ($150), then buy some aftermarket pistons/rings and have it assembled. Keep in mind, if you get away from the stock balance of 50 oz., you will need to buy a new balancer and flywheel. A 306 does not need this.

If you are buying a shortblock from an engine building shop, then the 347 is the best deal, shortblock vs. shortblock. Just keep in mind, the balancer and flywheel.

An AFR 185cc head is great with aftermarket pistons on a 306.

You would not need mid .23X's at .050" with that large of a cylinder head. Get a custom camshaft guy to fix you up with a lobe to fit your wants and needs.

A 30 lb injector is perfect for a AFR 185/306 combination.

For the money I wanted to spend the 306/185 should fit the bill...
I emailed rnhperformance.com for some info on doing the motor work... figure I could send the cam & top end stuff and have him assemble. Havent heard back in over a week???

you figure not doing a chip/balancer/flywheel is gonna save me some dinero...:nice:

I don't get why you are so anti-chip. I understand saving money, but its a pretty big deal if you care about your care after dumping money into it. The only time I would feel safe is if I used stock injectors on a very mild h/c/i otherwise why not just do it RIGHT. Shortcuts are not worth it when you are spending thousands of dollars. Get the thing tuned and do it the right way.:)

You have a valid point on the chip.... I won't skimp when it comes to whats needed, never have... The way its looking I'll probably have to do the chip anyway.
Rick has been in touch and working up a few combos from the info I gave him... we'll see what goes...:nice:

I'm just curious......you have a budget of 3500, right? Instead of spending a ton of cash on heads.....why not just freshin up the short block....new pistons if you really need them....and supercharge it? You're gonna get a lot more power from doing that than just swapping heads and intake.

Good points... I have looked at that route also as well as turbo kits... A set-up from Vortech will run about the same cost. I was on Vortechs site the other day.
I would like to get the motor up to around 375-400 FWHP then throw the boost at it... Thats Phase 11 .....:nice:

Picked up some AFR185's with Comp Cams Pro Magnum rockers... FTI set them up with new valves. springs and competition valve job so I couldn't pass them up for the price...These should flow quite nicely... :D

I seen these on Corral and noticed it was Jesse selling them... these were part of his 331/turbo project that he ended up parting out.

Still waiting for info on my shortblock from Rick...

I think you are working backwards here. All the stuff you do to your engine to make it make 400 FWHP N/A is just going to hurt you when you turn around and boost it.
