Im sure most of you are familar with the vortech aftercooler system...see below..

I currently have my water resovoir mounted in the engine. The system is very effective, but they get heat soaked within 15-20 min of driving, due to the extreme heat of the headers, which is an issue, a bad issue that needs to be fixed. The aftercooler itself is a great thing to have. If only you could do something to eliminate all heat away from the water resovoir....

This is what I've thought of.....

-Mount the resovoir in the hatch like a battery box.
-Mount the water pump in the spare tire well
-Run the water lines along the trans tunnel or pass side door sill
-Mount the heat exchanger (small radiator that cools the water, curently mounted in front my my aluminum radiator) in the cowl area under the wipers.
-I have no heater core or AC, so running the lines into the firewall and into the cowl shouldnt be a problem.

It seems easy enough....as all plans do until you being construction..

Any ideas, recommendations, comments ??

Mounting the tank and pump in the trunk works well I know a few guys that have done that. I keep the lines away from the tranny and exhaust to try to keep as much heat out of the lines as possible.

The cowl area is a nice low pressure area, try it see if it works. I would think you get better air flow up front though.

By trans tunnel, I mean on the Inside of the car, underneath or next to the console, or below the pass side seat.

Lines underneath the carpet, or mount them securly to the side of the center console??
I would think the Cowl area has some good turbulance going through it, i have seen a few intercoolers mounted in there, so i would imagine it would get some nice airflow. Im trying to keep it simple, currently the heat exchanger is in front of the Radiator..I would like to minimize the amount of water line as much as possible.

This is where i got the idea for the cowl..

Usually when you see the cowl area being used they have a hood that goes to the windsheild....

Try it see how it works, it would make it clean....

You can run the lines inside, your like me and want it to look good though. If you can sneak them into the rear part of the center console and bring that out behind the radio/dash it would be sweet, hidden. I have not decide which way I am going, I may make a under dash A/W and have to run lines or I may make a complete unit that has the tank on it and mount it behind my passenger seat, but then I have to route the 4" tubing there....

My entire console is empty as im sure yours is too, no heater, radio, ect, so it should be somewhat easy to route them through there.

Sitting here thinking about it, I just remembered that i have a 600hp capable Permatex Oil cooler( oil cooler are rated on how much HP they will handle efficiently) hanging on my garage wall. I used it for a few weeks and blew a line, but the cooler is in good shape. Im sure it flows A LOT better then the little heat exchanger the vortech came with. It should proove useful this time around.

sounds like a great idea....i know alot of race cars will mount coolers in the hatch, this keeps them cool and kinda hidden if u wish, i say go for it!

You could try eliminating the heat from the headers with header wrap?

Everything sounds good. Remember though, the heat exchanger is mostly responsible for cooling. I suspect a bigger one is in order. I havent seen a stock vortech one, but Ive heard they are pretty small, and ineficient.

Yeah, Vortechs only hold 1galon if that, you need something like 5-8galons!

Should be way cooler and you may be able to run more boost

This one here may not be large enough for your purpose but how about something along these lines? It's a eltier. It the same type of device used in commercial watercoolers and coolers etc... Insulating the storage tank and installing a couple of these things may help with the heat saturation.
