If the axles were made strong/well enough, does spline count really matter then? Also, would you have faith in some aftermarket 28 spline axles from moser or strange?

The strange axles I have heard are much better than the stock ones.

i think it depends on the amound of power and what your doing, If you running on the street with 300hp 28 is fine but if your running 500+ on slicks at the track doing wheelies most of those guys use 33 spline w/ spools. It depends on how you use your car and whats in it.

Moser has a calculator on their site to see what spline is good enough.

According to Mosier, their 28-spline axles are more than enough for my 405rwhp stang launching hard on 3:55 gears... Your stock posi will blow WAY before you break a set of Mosier 28 splines. Go to their website for more info.

When axels break, they usually break at the shaft near the carrier. I have never seen a axel with the splines stripped off of them.

I think the logic is that more splines are a little stronger, so while upgrading everything, why not. However, I bet with 28's, you will break the rear end before stripping the splines.

I replaced my stockers with the Superior 28's a few years back and I can't complain...

I'm only running about 300RWHP now, and the car never sees the track or slicks...

Usually when the the amount of spline's increase, the axle tends to be physically bigger to account for the extra splines. It's not so much the splines as is the heat treating process and the material the axles are made out of. Either way, point proven!

I went right ahead and got 31 splines when i did my posi install. I figured I might as well do it right the first time if I plan on making real big power in the future

Well the issue is is that I built up th rear axle so nice with about $1200 including a hell of a differential that I am loving to death (torsen). I recently decided to go a supercharged route after the fact but i'de hate to have to sell something so soon including all the work down the drain. Basically it has all new bearings, seals, 3.55 gears, torsen (28 spline), rear disc conversion, springs, mm lca's steeda hd uca's, fms girdle. and a nice rust-proof gloss black paint job.

So with that said and done, for me it would be like major back-tracking, which is why i'm a little discouraged right now.

So with regards to the 28 splines, is there any info out there as to who has the undisputed best (strongest) or are they probably about the same?
