Aftermarket Alarm

Do you guys know if I can disconnect my aftermarket alarm and remove it without any problems. I want it out of the car but I am not sure if things are ran through the alarms computer and if it is disconnected if it will create an open circut.

I unplugged the alarm brain/computer and the door chime stoped working. Is that a factory option in 91 or an alarm feature?

It all will depend upon the alarm and how the installer wired the interrupt relay, etc. The norm is an active starter cut - if the alarm is dead, the starter circuit works. At worst, you'll have to trace that wire and reconnect it.

The locks should still work fine otherwise.

Not sure about your door chime since I disco'd mine long ago.

if your alarm unlocked the power door locks when you dis armed it, then you will have to re connect the lock wires. other than that like stated before, it depends on what was wired into the module. if it starts without the module, and you have manual locks, then you shouldnt really have a problem.

The locks should have been wired so that the cut lock and unlock wires go through the common and NC terminals of the respective relay - the locks would work with no alarm.
If he had factory keyless, the lock and unlock triggers from the aftermarket alarm would have been tapped into the existing triggers at the factory brain - again, no need to reconnect.

Does anyone have different experiences? That's how I wire alarms up and have seen them wired up.

On our project T-top car, there was a cliford alarm. I cut the box out and everything stopped working. I am in the process of rewiring under the dash so that I have the buzzers and alarms working again. I also need to re-run the IGN starter wire (or find the alarm interface) to get the key to start working again....

So in short, take pictures if you remove the alarm box. You'll need them later.

I have gotta ask............ with these alarms, for things like ignition power, the alarm wire gets spliced into the stock wiring (a tee is made, rather than a wire cut, per se). How does all the OEM stuff stop working after the alarm removal?

I've never seen issues like that. Are the Tee connections being cut apart, opening the OEM circuit? I'm just really curious because I have NEVER had issues like that (I do a fair amount of this type of work) but in order to help people better on the board, I want my posts to reflect what you guys are seeing. Thanks.

The brain I am refering to has a main plug on it with 4 other plugs into it. I disconnected it, car starts and door locks work as should. This thing is just stuffed up there, in 91 there was no gem or any module to speak of for the window, locks correct. The computer does not have ford on it but the wires are coded like the ford wiring. Newer alarms are distinctly aftermarket wiring such as purple, pink, and florecent colors.

Also the chime I belive is the lighting chime being when the alarm is deactivated the lights stay on for a min.

I hate alarm systems, such hacks

JT, when we got our 87, nothing worked. So I went in and cut out the box since we didn't get the transmitters with the keys. Most of the splices were repaired in less than 1 hour and I was good to go. So my post should reflect user error since I just haven't been able to locate the IGN splice yet.

Ok guys I removed the alarm, door chimes do not work but key in ignition chime works as well as lights on chime. Car starts drives, and doors unlock. I really happy about this, this alarm has been buggin me since the day I bout the car. Thanks to all

Does the interior light come on with the door opening? Is it kaputt for both doors?

Steve, thanks for the info. I like knowing where folks are coming from and it helps me - I began to wonder how shops were installing these things.
