Aftermarket iron heads

hey historic, I just got my 289 heads back from Thumper and I am very, very impressed with the quality. I can't wait to get my motor back together. I too was in your position until I looked at compression ratio and flow numbers, and realized that it's a much better bang for the buck to let someone like Mike take care of you. With my 289 and world product heads (58cc), I was goin to make about 8.7:1 compression. So I had my small chambered 289 heads ported and milled, so I should horse power ahead of world product heads.

I did a set of 69 351w heads. Those had to be the worst cast ports I have ever seen. There were big ridges on the short side, under the valve, everywhere. I just smoothed them all up. Not an all out hogging of the ports, just fixing a bad casting job. It must have worked, they went 11.70's on a 306 and mid 10's on the hose.
