Aftermarket iron heads

Cast Iron Heads

I put a set of World Casting's Roush 200s on my 351W.

That thing breathes like nobodies buisness. They go 2.02/1.60 valves and are assembled with pretty good parts atleast for the street.

It depends on what you want in the long run as far as power.

The GT-40s are a good choice, but some would argue that the GT-40P heads are even better. They came on mid '97 and later 5.0 Explorers. Supposedly they have relatively small valves and ports, but great velocity and CFM. I've heard of ported versions supporting over 320rwhp in an EFI 5.0. Other options are the Roush/World 180 with 1.90/1.60 valves or D00E 351W castings.

the world products heads are good heads. in fact they started with the same port design used in their dart small block chevy heads, and actually improved on them with the ford design. i would go with a set of ported windsor jr heads in your application historic. the smaller ports work well with a long rod engine like the 289.

Thanks, the coupe is a air conditioned, automatic ride and used only for around town with occasional trip on the interstate so lower RPM "performance" is a plus.

Historic , I have some heads you may want

I have world products 58 cc heads, cast iron. They are 10 years old,but never installed. They were bought bare, ported and port matched to an intake ,and assembled with upgraded valves. They have surface rust on them because I never painted them.I could have them bead blasted if you are interested.
I have no idea how much they are worth, but I will have to make em cheap enough to offset the shipping from my place in Ca. to you.

I run the world JR heads on my 289 and like the power from them, dont like the need for a specific header to clear the revised spark plug location, not as much of a problem in the 67+ cars but in the 64-66 stangs it is a problem. I may be goin with a ported X302 aluminum head soon.

Thanks, Will keep these in mind as I move a little closer to the project.

Will be keeping the stock exhaust manifold as I want the ride to "look" as classic as possible.

Then why waste your time and money on aftermarket heads? Choking the flow with the stock manifolds means you won't allow the heads to flow enough to justify the change. Use at least a Tri-Y header or just have your stock heads reworked.

Look into porting your heads... Unless you get a killer deal on Alum heads.. porting IS the way to make killer power and save a few bucks for other mods!!

I want to weigh the cost of completely reworking the current heads vs iron heads out of the box. That is the reason for post.

It is a "money being spent" situation.

Cost... for power! NOT using the Ebay or Classifieds and walking into good deals..
Porting your heads and working them is the cheapest way!! IMO. Why?? cause the heads are already there and you are just paying for the work!! The WP heads are what..?? 850.00 a set?? ( ported E7s will pull better velocity and flow numbers) GT40s are 550.00... ( Ported E7s will again, pull better) Also all the stock push rods and rockers will bolt right back on to your own ported heads!! nothing special to buy!! bolt on 30-40 RWHP and rock!!

Cost of port work!! AHhhhhh.. Depends!! who, where, and how much you get done!! There is NO guidelines on " Ported", you can get killer work to butchered!! Or doing it your self.. you will see gains !! good port and bowl work with valve job will allow over 400+ FWHP thru the cfm and velocity!! and then there is that "Stealth" thing... LOL
