I once heard someone on these boards say that they got some sort of aftermarket shifter and while the throws were shorter it took more effort to shift into gears and was actually less comfortable for a daily driver.... any truth to that?

depends on which one u get, some are more racy than others, i got a steeda tri-ax and its not any harder to shift and MUCH more comfortable than the stock crap, not to mention how much firmer the shifts are and that i havent missed a shift since ive gotten it, first mod i did and much more fun to drive since i did it.

If you don't like shifting, an aftermarket shifter might aggravate ya...but if you love shifting like most manual trans owners, you'll love an aftermarket shifter. They aren't really much harder to shift. To me, it's actually easier, but maybe a slight bit more effort is required. But the shifts are more precise. I don't miss the OEM shifter in the least.
