is the stereo powering up?if it is then its pretty odd that you wouldnt have sound out of any of the speakers at all, take a multimeter hook up power and ground to the stereo and test the speaker output for voltage but since you said now your factory unit wont give you any sound either sounds to me like you either have a major wiring problem or you hooked up the harness wrong.

Funny you mention it... There was thread about this yesterday (?) You need to bypass the factory amplifier to get the sound to come out of the speakers. www.crutchfield will have a harness to bypass it with and / or local stereo shops.

Let me find that other thread for you too.

Go back to the factory radio first, if that is not working then you dont need to worry about amps. I assume the factory radio worked when you took it out . Are you using the harness you purchased when trying to re hook up the factory head unit?? If so disconnect and plug the factory wire harness in. Do you have factory speakers??

Yes. This does sound all too familiar. Pick up the bypass harness for the factory amp and you will be in business. While your at it, rip out that old amp for a 1/2 pound weight savings and 2 tenths off teh 1/4 mile time. WOOT WOOT! :nice:

well if his factory radio no longer works either i highly doubt its as simple as bypassing or removing the factory amp.hes definitally got wiring issues of some sort.:nono:

Almost 95% of threads created on stereo installs relate to this exact question. If the radio is powering up and no sound comes from the speakers than the factory amp is the problem. This is a wiring problem....

If it was a short, some of the speakers would work. If the speakers were bad, you would hear them buzzing.

thanks for your help everyone, i went to the local stereo store and bought the wiring harness bypass for the amp. do i just unplug the stock amp and plug that connector in?
I just went through this myself. From what I can figure out you are supposed to remove the factory amplifier, then follow the 8 pin square plugs from the factory amp back until they lead to a 6 and 8 pin rectangular connectors (one is black, one is grey). One you plug those in you will get power and sound. HOWEVER! Your door speakers will no longer work because you are plugged into the "standard" wiring and not the "premium". Please let me know if this happens to you as well. It did to me on my 88 LX Vert.
