Aftermarket Stereo

My 2000 had a standard radio in it, so replacing it with an aftermarket one was no problem. I don't want to order the Shaker 1000 system if I am going to replace the stereo. But, after looking at pictures of the new setup (as far as the stereo/dash), how is a standard head unit going to fit? Does Ford make an adapter? Or am I out of the loop and missing something.

Can someone set me straight?

thanks!! :bang:

so its a brand new size of stereo then? I heard somewhere that the new stereo in the 05 is the same one in the F150? If thats true...an adapter for the F150 would work?

See, I am ordering the Stang without a stereo...and am going to put one in myself.

The harness adapter for the F150 will work. Several companies make them. As far as the stereo goes, it's all standard sizes. Single Din, 1.5 Din, double Din, etc. The stereo in the stang is a 1.5 din. Most head units you would buy are single din. You would therefore need a mounting kit or make a face plate.

But the question is, will it look good??

The new stereo is just so much a part of the center console that i can't imagine any aftermarket face plates would look decent.

That's the reason why i made sure i got the 460 on my '03 because i just don't think single din adaptors look good on cars with 1.5 2 din spaces. They just look cheap.

EDIT:

Actually...this looks good

The adapter you want is the Scosche FD1424B. The one I ordered had on page instructions for the F150 and the 2005 Mustang. The HU fits in there nice and snug and has a small pocket below it. As soon as my Mustang comes in I will be pulling the old one out and sliding this one in.
