Bad news.. :damnit:

After bringing my friend home last night [Who lives down a 3 mile dirt road if that may affect it], I was on my way back home. My brakes have been squeaking for about 2 weeks and my check engine light has always been going on and off, yet it's a ford..those lights go on if you don't have the door closed right. So I continued going home and notice my brakes start to lock up without me pressing them, I was on the gas and my car started to slow down [No, I DO NOT have ABS]. Then I took my foot off the gas and pressed it down again. My RPMs went up to about 5000 but no power to the wheels, I stayed at 20MPH. Then I keep going and notice my acculeration started to kick back in but was still acting up. It seemed as if the transmission was almost downshifting and below 20-30 the car would brake for itself and drag to a halt.

I have no idea what the problem could be. I just had my brakes changed a month ago and I'm praying my transmission isn't dying. If anyone can give me any suggestions I'd greatly appreciate it. I have off work today so I'm gunna try to find what went wrong..

thats really weird, maybe you got some dust in your brake and its making them stick. As for the tranny, maybe the whole dirt road is a coincidence and its just messing up.

well, I just ran out and took off my rear tires.. It looks like the rear is locking.. Go figure, I just dropped about 800 bucks for gears, an hpipe, gauges, and nitrous.. [yes, i work at a parts store so i get a huge discount so stfu.] now I gotta get stuff to make the car actually run.. :damnit: [by the way, that guy is coming in hand alot lately.. i need a sign like that.] i should start a website so people can donate me money....lots of it...any takers? haha.. lets just pray it's not my transmission.

:OT:
by the way.. i have a 1994 v6 in the garage that i totalled but the tranny/engine is still fine.. is that the same transmission? cuz' i know it's a 7.5 rear instead of a 8.8 on my gt...

the transmissions arent the same. the bellhousing mating to the back of the 3.8 is smaller than the one going to the 5.0

For the GTS's it's an option.

How is the rear locking up? Is it just the brakes locking, or something in the rearend? The rear calipers will sometimes freeze up on these cars, and other fords with rear disc brakes. The pins in the bracket that the caliper bolts to will rust and freeze up, causing the brake to stick. You can get a new bracket and pins from the dealer fairly cheap.

I would remove the calipers and then turn the axles. If that didn't help, unbolt the driveshaft from the rearend and try it again. You will need a 10 or 12mm 12 point wrench to remove the 4 bolts holding the driveshaft on. That should determine whether the problem is in the rearend or the transmission.

Okay, thanks for the help..

But is there still any reason why when my car shifts into 2nd [it's an automatic] that my check engine light comes on and the RPMs go up to about 5500 then it finally catches?

I'm praying my transmission isn't shot

If the trans is a AODE(94/95) and you have a 3.73 or lower(numerically higher) gear, the trans must be recalibrated via a chip. Sounds like the EEC is going nuts.
