Air Box Hose??

Hey Guys,

I just got my second Mustang as my first one was diposed of by a moving van. I now own a 1991 Mustang LX Hatch .. I was out working on it tonight and decided to take the air silencer off as i will be getting a C.A.I shortly anyways. But my question is .. when i took of the air box to get the silencer out of it's place...there was a piece of hose coming off the back of the air box...now it looks as if it was attched to something at some point ...but it no longer is...can anyone tell me what it is for and if it really matters if it is there or not.....thanks guys

There is a flap at the back of the box that would open to let air run down a tube and blow on the header. There should have been a silver heat shield that was on the header at one time.

Thanks...sounds about right...so all in all it is useless.. is the resonator the object between the Mass Air Flow Sensor and the throttle body and looks like a fat tube?

if you want you can remove the shroud off the exhasut manifold and the tube... it just opens when the motor is cold to suck warm air off the manifold to help it warm up quicker... big whoopty doo...

the resonator is located INSIDE the big box tube looking thing between the MAF and TB... if you take that tube off and look inside, you'll see the resonator inside, you can just rip it out... when I say RIP, you seriously have to pull it out, takes some effort but it will go. doesnt really do much though... also if you're worried about yer intake, theres a small piece attached to the front of the airbox that snakes around the radiator to the front of the car... if you remove it you'll help out some... some refer to it as the "air silencer"...

ya i took the flap in the bottom of the air box out. I also filled the air box with a ton of holes to let more air in and took the hose from the header off. i have noticed a huge difference in bottom end performance. Of course i have a k&n air filter.
