So i drove my car today for like 40 miles with the ac blowing wide open and it was blowing ice cold (like it should) when i got home i parked it and about an hour later came back out to go to the store and no ac? i havent checked my freon yet(the charge hose is in my dads truck at work) if its full of freon what eles could it be? fuse? relay?. thanks for any help

99% chance it got low on 134a and the pressure switch has cut the compressor off.

check the 134 level and let us know. cause without that info its hard to diagnose

Usually when the pressure gets really low you have to manually engage the clutch to get the compressure running again!!! You can do that with a paper clip. Plus use air conditioning gauges to figure out what the high and low side are running for starters!!! If you reply I can walk through diagnosing your a/c, I'm taking this class as we speak.

i put a gauge on it and it read extremely HIGH and i mean very high. i let some out and tried to jump the compressor like you talked about and nothing happened. i was thinking it might not have enough freon in it now

Being really high like that could also be a clog somewhere in the system. I have had 2 cars at work already this summer with the problem, both of them had debris clogging the orifice tube.

I hope your not using those POS gauges they put on the freon cans....those are worthless

That being said, you probably have a leak somewhere and now all the freon is gone

Short the AC switch with a paper clip and see if the compressor kicks on to blow cold air. You may have to do this while adding freon and the same time.....

^^ tried that. and no im not using those crappy ones im using my dads good ac gauges. the compressor will not come on at all but the fan will come on when you turn the switch on itside the car. the only way we got the compressor to come on its i unpligged the harness from it and ran a pos/neg wire to the battery. im starting to think the clutch is bad?

ok im trying to understand where you put the paperclip to jump the compressor. I already put a new compressor and add oil to it like i should and put 134a in it. Doesnt run cold just blows air. Also should i check the orifice tube or something. Cuz i dont know what to do and its pissingme off. Its hot out here lol

The pressure switch is near the back firewall on the passenger side....just unlplug it and short both prongs inside the switch with a paper clip. If the compressor kicks on, the switch is bad and should be replaced with a new OEM one from the dealer.

So exactly what is the pressure on the low and high sides? The is a low pressure switch that won't allow the compressor to run if the pressure on the low side is too low. This is the switch refered to above and is located on the accumulator. There is also a high pressure switch on the high side. It prevents the compressor from running if the pressure on the high side is too high. If the pressure it high due to a clogged orfice valve, then you'll have to replace that.

if you replaced the compressor, you shouldve done the same with the filter dryer and orrefice tube. not doing so. well you could have a bigger problem with one of those. another question you didnt flush the system did you? if you didnt there could be trash in the system also now you have more oil in the system then whats required. that will result in the system to opperate properly.

Take it to a shop and have them diagnose it, cost about $60 to do so, they should deduct the $60 from the work performed. there is a lot of variables and alot of things that could be wrong, and it could just be low on freon. you can destroy your compressor or hurt yourself if you are not careful, if it is low on freon there is most likely a leak and needs to be repaired or replaced. You will spend $40 each time you fill the system with freon.... do yourself a favor and take it to somebody that does that for a living, it will be alot cheaper in the long run, call around your area and check for quotes for diagnosis and repair cost....

there is no leak in my ac system. and if you jump the compressor of directly to the battery when the clutch comes on it sound like a rod knocking in the compressor. i know a little about ac system and my dad is a 37 year mechanic so we should be fine

If the compressor sounds like a box of raocks then you got a bad compressor
