I just bought an 89 LX 5.0 notch. The air works but blows on the floor and up through the defroster. Can anybody tell me the problem and how to fix it? I want it to blow out the vents, I live in Florida.

sounds like the HVAC door is stuck. sometimes a small whack with a hand on the diverter door will unstick it.

congrats on the ride and good luck.

I had a similar problem after my h/c/i swap...I accidently pulled a vaccum line over on the driver side (vaccum tree) where the hoses are labeled "S", "A/C", "B/R"...etc...and I knocked the "A/C" hose off and did a little tracing and found the loose hose and slid it back in and the vents blew :nice: ...before it was the defroster/floor that blew...

Good Luck

I want to give it a whack! Yeah! I used to whack it, the evap. housing that is.

check what those guys stated first, then theres a little vacuum diaphram behind the dash that controls the diverter door. Listen for a hissing sound under the passenger dash. Could be a small vac. leak, not enough to affect the engine.

First check the easiest thing to fix. Look right above the accelerator pedal and see if the yellow vacuum line is plugged into the silver diverter valve on the side of the AC ducts. If it has come loose, the air will default to the defroster. Next step would be the vacuum lines to the AC controller and under the dash. Hopefully it is one of the easy lines to fix.

Good luck!
