Does the removal of the air silencer really make that much improvement? My only mods are a K&N air filter and a weld in of 40 series flowmasters. Should I just leave it alone? This stang only has 1200 miles on it.

it'll get little more air but you'll hardly gain anything. Take it off just for the "thought" of it. Who knows, maybe you'll think you're going faster without it and drive even better. :nice: lol

On the Kenne Bell website they state.. For every 10 degree increse of heat you loose 1% of the horepower... The Fender is about 70 degrees and the heat under the hood is over 200 so do the math.

When you're driving down the road in 70 degree weather, the air under the hood where the silencer was is not 200 degrees. The air is so turbulent under there (from the fan and from driving) that it's at most 10-20 degrees warmer. I'm sure if you were just sitting there in traffic it could get up to 200 degrees under there, but when sitting there how much hp do you really need?

I felt a small gain, and its a *tiny bit* louder. It takes like 2 minutes to take it out and it goes back in just as easily.. take it out and see if you like it. If you don't, put it back in. On another note, for people WITH the silencer removed: Any gains to be had from enlarging the hole on the airbox? Theres only a small area for air to flow in.

yeah

went to the track with my airsilencer in ran 14.3 like 4 times.. then I took it out and the rest of the nite I ran 14.0.. then next few times got it to 13.8..

i picked up 4.5 hp and 5 ftlbs on the dyno from removing the air silencer, on a stock car ,1600 miles

I'd like to see the dyno graph for it.

And dropping 3/10ths after removing it could also be because it was getting later and the air temp was lower.

I like free mods as much as the next guy but I'm always skeptical about the gains that people produce on them. I'm gonna test the silencer theory at MDD7 on Sunday the 22nd... mid day racing so the temp should be relatively constant.
