I have read on here where people remove the silencer,what is it, what is the gain, and where is it located? I'm new at this, so excuse my ignorance for asking the question? I also have read that plastic cai are better for what they are worth. Any comments will be appreciated?

It is a cone shaped air inlet that "silences" incoming air to the engine. There isn't much gain in the way of "seat of the pants" but you'll hear is sucking air, it might be worth a couple HP but nothing big. Although it is free!!! It is located in the air filter housing on the right inner fender. Open the lid and take out the filter. it is the rubber cone shaped piece going into the fender. Take it out, reassemble the air box and your done. Plastic cai, showing my ignorance??? :damnit:
CAI's, plastic or otherwise, are hit or miss as to the power gains, especially on a stock motor. I've seen just as many posts and tests where there were some gains, and others where there was nothing at all. For now, save your $$ for other mods, and just go w/a K&N drop in filter.

hes right, if you have a stock exhaust a CAI is just for sound and bling-bling factor. The gains you get you will not notice. reason being that the stock intake tube is pretty damn good from the factory. take out the silencer and drop in a K&N you will get the same gains as a CAI (unless you want the looks)
This is the ONLY dyno proven CAI that I've ever seen. Small gain but gain none the less.
I took my air silencer off then cut it even with the fender well and re-installed. This way I'm still sucking cooler air from the side as opposed to the hotter air in the engine compartment.
