Alignment with a 2'' drop....

I was wondering if anyone was able to get their alignment close to being on with out C&C plates with a set of sportlines or simmilar springs... im getting wear on the out side edge of my tire.... just a bit...

Tires shouldn't wear on the outside with a drop. They should wear on the inside. Do you have the specs from the latest alignment? Maybe we can help, with that info. A pic of the alignment printout would be best. With the ranges and actual settings.

I got a 2 in drop. they said it was aligned perfectly. Now my tires are ****ed. And its the inside that wears froma drop. Not the outside.

I really need to get some C/C plates.

outside wear you got problems dude ...you need to check your tie rods i believe maybe it ball joints.....one or the other

I used to work in a garage that did tons of alignments. All we could do with lowered cars was set it to factory specs. In other words you will never get the alignment dead on with a drop. Unless the manufacturer of the springs or whatever actually gave you a spec sheet. But I haven't see that.

well that's weird cause the guy who did my suspension work doesn't even have a lift or those big alignment machines and he got mine better than it was before.
but i also have MM CC plates.

I was able to have my car aligned no problem twice with my drop and no c/c plates. Only the second time the guy told me that the camber was maxed-out on passenger side, but it was only off by a negligible amount. So far I put 12,000 miles on a new set of tires, and there are no signs of abnormal wear.

You can align cars without a machine. Thats how it was done back in the day. However the new machines are amazingly accurate down to points of degrees. But you can get the camber and stuff close enough not to pull without a machine.

But I imagine yours is slightly out of spec. But maybe not enough to cause any serious wear.

I sell tires...and I have seen brand new tires wear out in less than 10k miles (I am talking about very good tires also...not cheap tires) due to the alignment being out.

the shop i went to said they couldnt get it aligned perfectly with the drop even with the c/c plates.

wtf?? should i take it somewhere else?

Every car is different. Some shops will lie to you. And sometimes make your alignment out on purpose so the technician will get paid for it. Plus some places will not mess with lowered cars because they are a PITA and usually can't be done right.

All the tech's have is factory specs. There is no magical specs for lowered cars. They can set it to factory specs and hope for the best.

Always get a print out of the specs.

lol when i got my vert alignment done i decided it was a good time since i just put the 18's on..so i take it down about 20 miles on the wheels....i talked to the tech he said he could do it for like ....80 bucks or something....i come back to pick it up and my bill was like 200 bucks i was like wtf??? of corse now the tech wasnt there....so i pick up the bill and start reading and it said had to rotate tires becuase of excessive wear and blah blah blah...so i walk the guy out and show him that the stickers are still on the wheels...he started freaking out and was like umm uh ok just pay me what he quoted you... i knew another guy at the shop and he came up to me a couple days later and was like how the car ..i told him the story and he was like what the hell? i watched him do it it took like 10 mins he told me it was one of the easiest cars he ever aligned..he never touched the wheels!!!! ....so just be careful who you take it to

there is a shop that deals with aligning lowered cars and trucks only here in Jersey called the front end shop. they said that it is hard to get a good alignment from the standard aligning tools that most shops use. He never said a bad thing about sts or pepboys or any of the major tire shops. He just said they are not equipped with the knowledge and tools needed to do jobs like this. he didn't even rape me on the cost to my brothers car( Christmas present). he explained a lot to me, and let me watch while he did it. Then told me the differences between a normal shop and his. I really don't think he was blowing smoke up my ass because after two years of tires wearing th wrong way his car now not only drives straight but there is no uneven tire wear or wheel shake at high speeds.

My suggestion, find a shop like i did that specializes in doing cars that are lowered or modified.
