All junkyard turbo information here please!!

Supposedly for $700 worth of junkyard parts you can build a homemade turbo setup .. any info on this would be great , thanks!

Man, that guy needs to work on his welding...haha should've modded his motor some before putting those on tho.

I emailed him telling him he had changed my life. I am going to start that exact same setup while im doing my motor build and the engine is out... wish me luck. I will prolly go with stealth twin t's i had one of those cars before and they pull till tomarrow

theres guys with stock engines, oil pan to t/b with only turbo pushing 600+ HP......that turbo setup looks 1/2...wait.......1/8 ass....what ever floats your canoe

those welds look like complete ass and i hope he put some kind of air filtration on the inlet side of those turbo's lol.

Otherwise it might be a pretty cheap way to make power if done diffrently. Ported E7's with a ported lower intake. throw on the supported mods and twin stealthed turbo's might be quite the sleeper. Even stuff the old air silencer in there to eat up room. That is if you can weld better than that guy

Might be kinda cool thing to do to 305 camero i could buy for a field beater Turbo hoopdie

Holy hell that is one fugly setup.

He is also using the smallest turbos that a 5.0. can use. I believe they are the .42/.48 turbos.

Stealth twin turbo's will not work for a 5.0. so you'll need to go with something bigger. For a twin setup most recommend .60/.63's or .60/.48's, both of which were found on mustang svo's and thunderbird turbo coupe's. Keep in mind that whatever turbo's you find out of a junk yard…chances are they will have to be rebuilt.

No actually that looks like a Bush not a pepsi. That is one of the worst set ups i have seen ever, only if it had ducktape....

$700 maybe just in turbos and piping. you also need BOVs, fmu, injectors, intercooler, mass air recalabrated... I got my single setup, using a big holset , I think its a hx50, I paid $350 for new in the box (a real steal), and about $500 to have the crossover and downpipe made. then its at least $400 for injectors (60#)$300 for a fuel pump, $425 for cell with the external pickup for the pump $200 for rails, $200+ for rails and $200 + for the 1/2 lines and fittings, $100 for the oil filter relocate kit+ fittings , and about $700 or more to program the ecu, or stand alone to make it work. etc...you don't need all that stuff, but if you really want to make power and want it to last I'd suggest doing it right the first time, especially to prevent detonation

I'll get you some pics of mine with the one turbo setup its would be much eaiser to build yourself than 2.

being a Grand National guy I'd say it can be done for under a grand with some recycled parts and a few freebies. Check the performance stores to see if they'll give a discount price on stuff for putting on a sticker and directing customers to their store.(Make sure you talk to the manager not the teenager working the register) You'd be surprised how often this works. Also stop by an exhaust shop. They'll often times have extra stuff you can get for next to nothing if you want to weld it together.

wouldn't it have been easier to just buy a kit? I thought you can get a kit for $4000 w/ everything. You spent roughly $3400 with all of that.

Also, it's called a home-made turbo setup for a reason lol, that guy home-made his piping etc...saves a lot of money.

LOL......did you watch the video of you $700 turbo god.......the car sounded like she was spooling but still struggled to get up and go.....what a butcher this guy is...hahahahaha

yeah but most kits for that much won't make 600-700 hp...

Do any of you even know whats 600-700 hp feels like? I bet not a one of you have been in a car with that much power. Sure there are ppl making that on this forum, but I always feel they make it seem not so big a deal. 600 700 hp is a dream from most ppl but unless you have a 5k dollar motor it sint gonna happen unless you dont want it for more than a month. I think the guy could use someone to help him weld, and maybe plan the pipes better, but over all, from the video and finished product, he did a pretty good job. I know he inspired me to take on a DIY turbo myself. As a matter of fact Im going to the junkyard tomarrow. I belive you can get a twin tubo setup installed and running in the car for even less than 700 dollars.

Not going to happen for less than $700. Hell, the guy whose link that was posted above cut about every corner you could to get it done. He got the cheapest turbo's possilble and the cheapest fuel system possible. If you want it done right, chances are it's going to cost over 1k$. Fuel injectors are a must, as is a maf calibrated for the injectors. A fuel pump is a must. The oil feed and return lines need to be a material than can withstand more than a month of abuse. And if you dont feel like gettin pulled over every other day for obnoxious sounds and smells, then you'll need to attach those down pipes to the rest of the exhaust. There is plenty that I left out that you'll need. It all adds up. If you do some research on turbomustangs you'll find that it can be done for cheap...but if you want to do it right, it's not going to be that cheap.

Just dont get your hopes up about the price. You'll find a lot of the bits and pieces add up.

What sized injectors do you need to run a 6-8 lb system? I have the 255 pump 24's and mass air calibrated to 24's. The turbos i cant imagine being more than 100 for the both of them if you look hard enough, the piping will cost me close to nothing as I have a connection in the family who readily has them avaible and is superb at welding. The only things im questioning is the injectors and mass air i might want to go to 42, I will get a used set off the trader here. The most expensive part is the tune after everythign is done. I am almost positive I can put this together for under 700 dollars.
