Almost done

OK...actual proof that I do work on my car! Last weekend I trailered the car over to Mohr Restorations to get the paint touched up and buffed. While there we will also bolt the freshly painted hood on. After that all I need to do is get the trim installed before I get it tagged and registered. Any one here from Texas that registered their car as "antique vehicle"? I originally did not consider it because of the restrictions that are basically either parades, shows, or to and from getting serviced. But my insurance agent said that most people do this because the restrictions are impossible to enforce. The advantage is no inspections are required and you only have to register every 5 years. I have also bought some NOS unissued 1968 license plates that I will register.

That's one of my most favorite cars I've seen on here... can't wait to see it finished! the paint and wheels look beautiful together.

i was going to go antique, but decided against it. i eventually found hagerty and they are real cheap and was the only agencie that was going to insure a 16 year old (at the time, almost 18 now).

Classic license plates are issued to cars that are 25 or more years old. Unlike antiques, which cannot be used for regular transportation or carry advertising, classic license plates require a vehicle to be fully registered like any other vehicle, allowing it be operated on any roadway. A specialty plate fee of $15 is charged in addition to the regular registration fee [pdf, 1 page, 943kb] and other applicable fees.

Antique license plates are issued for cars, trucks or motorcycles that are at least 25 years old and are a collector’s item. The vehicle must be used exclusively for exhibitions, club activities, parades or other functions of public interest. Vehicles displaying Antique plates may not be used for regular transportation or carry advertising; however, the vehicle may be driven to and from a location for routine maintenance.
Antique plates are issued for five-year periods. The registration fee for the five-year period is $50.30 ($10 per year, plus an additional 30 cents for the registration insignia) for vehicles manufactured in 1921 and subsequent years and $40.30 ($8 per year, plus an additional 30 cents for the registration insignia) for vehicles manufactured in 1920 and prior years. Fees are reduced $10/$8 for each year of the period that has elapsed at the time the application is filed.

You can substitute Plates the same age as the vehicle for either of the above plates.

I'm going to do the same. I have some NOS '66 black plates for mine.

I had read all of this info on the Texas DOT site and was going to register as a classic...but the insurance agent talked me into going the antique route because the driving limitations are impossible to enforce. The biggest advantage is only having to register once every 5 years and no inspections.

looking VERY nice there. I'd be interested in some high res shots of that when it's done!

it was a nice touch in the video with your rear tire mockup I was wondering what in the heck type of wheel that was until I saw it was just the tire

*Edit - what's your suspension setup? Wheel/tire size? I am abosultely in love with that setup (is it just me or does this smilie look more like a drunk and drooling smilie than an "I love it" smilie )

This is the look I was going for

In the vid the rear tire is a 295/35-18 that I ran on a 10" wheels. They rubbed a little at my ride height so I changed to the 275/40 18x9 combo shown in the buff pics. The fronts are 18x8 with 245/40's. The supsension is Global West upper and lower control arms, GW front springs with one full coil removed and 1/4" poly spring spacer, GW rear springs dearched an additional 2", 1" front Stam Bar adjustable sway bar, and Koni shocks.

Hi Jeff...didn't you recently sell your late model to buy some certain 67/68 coupe? You did the photochop of my car with the later model Ford anniversary wheels that were on your late model.

Good point on the buffing wheel...and a good thing he is done! I am going to pick up the car tomorrow...I can't friggin wait!

The air cleaner contacts the hood when it closes so I am changing the 1" carb spacer to this 1/2" one View attachment 460192

Yes, I sold my 93 coupe. I really regret selling it though - it was so damn nice

I ended up buying a 67 fastback. I almost bought a coupe, but the seller backed out at the last minute I got a pretty good deal on the FB though. It came with an Eleanor kit, and a ton of new parts, most of which I sold (including the e-kit) to re-coop some of my expenses. I haven't done much more than that with the car though - and I've had it for about a year! Before x-mas, I should be done building my garage (fits about 6 cars) - THEN the real work starts.

Your car has the perfect stance and the wheels and tires really set it off. So with the tires and wheels that are on it now do you have any rubbing, I was going to go with 255/40/18 in the rear but if I could fit a 275 that would look even better.

As far as I can tell there is no rubbing...but I have yet to drive the car outside of my immediate neighborhood.
