Almost lost to Chevy Cavriler and Civic

How about basic tune up stuff. How long since you swapped plugs and wires, fuel filter ect.. ? I used to own a 4 door cavalier before I got my stang. Mine is basically stock except exhaust and I think I could pull a plug wire off and still beat a cavalier. And definently get a tranny cooler, I just put mine on a few weeks ago. You can tell a difference when it is really hot outside. It used to be in temps over 90 degrees the tranny would shift kinda soft after it got heated up. That doesn't happen since I installed the cooler.

PUT YOUR AOD IN 1st GEAR TAKE OFF UNTIL REDLINE THEN PUSH IT UP IN SECOND AS SOON AS YOU FEEL IT SHIFT INTO SECOND PULL IT BACK INTO 1rst GEAR AGAIN AND IT WILL STAY IN SECOND UNTIL YOU MANUALY SHIFT IT OUT

---- OUCH --- IF YOU LIKE TO DRIVE DONT DO THIS. IT DOES WORK BUT WILL KILL YOUR TRANNY FAST !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Make sure your fluid level is always up to par.

PI makes great converters but too much for your stock AOD. Why spend soo much on a conv. when your tranny gonna go anyway. you can find a 2400-2800 stall for under 300 put a transgo shift kit in they work great for the money about 100 far as i remember(been a few years) GEARS, GEARS, GEARS no doubt My AOD can w/2.73's( can we say DOG ) WENT TO 3.73'S( HELLO) 4.10'S WOULD BE(oops caps) even better for me but it is a daily driver.

O.K IM with these guys 2900lb NO WAY!!!!! you seemed to aviod a Q about how/what you did to get it to that weight. Quote " i did alot of wieght reduction. WHAT DID YOU DO EXACTLY, please tell us we all want to be down there. If you were that light 250hp could be a mid/low 12's. No Cavalier w/ hubcaps missing would be a close race. My friend puts down only 280rwhp and he runs 11.7's @ 3500 ft.

IF you do the 1-d-1 shuffle make sure it shifts into 2nd before you pull it back down to hold it. If you push it up to d and pull down immediately it uses the OD band to shift and that's how it will kill it very quickly.

Ok, I did a recent tune up on it and she runs strong. I did not put in the quad shocks. I had a shop do it and it is great. The rear is about 3 inches higher than the front (from center of rear fender). As far as weight reduction.

-No back seats
-No passenger seats
-Spare tire/jack
-10lb of sound deadener
-Washer fluid resevoir
-Inner wheel well covers
-A/C components removed (ALL)
-Heat ducts removed
-Air bag sensors removed (dont worry, my air bag is gone)
-Alluminum driveshaft
-Rear carpet removed
-Hood insulation gone
-No catalytic converters

I think the main reason why my car bogged on that lauch against the cavriler was because it started out in second, then shifted at 4000. By the time it shifted I was 2 or 3 car lenths ahead. I do have a cooler on it right now. The fluid is new. When she starts in first, I almost crap my pants. What would a shift kit do for me??? Would I love it or not notice the difference??? Not enough money for a converter or gears. Should I swap out for a T-5??? How hard is that to install??? I may be able to get one for cheap. Are light weight flywheels good for 5.0's??? What I do now when I race is I Hold one foot on the brake and the other on the gas. Then I gradually depress the gas until the car creeps. Then when it turns green I press the pedal fast but dont mash it. Then to the floor. That seems to work best as if i smash it to the floor right away I just spin the tires.

his comp. doesnt control the shifts unless he put in an AODE. Its done through the valve-body. So the 1-2-1 shift(the tech. name) wears on parts FAST I know i did it, blew through a heavy-duty AOD quick, less than a year. you can adj. the shift points on your T.V. cable but i dont recommend it.

i've been doing the 1-D-1 shuffle everyday for a year on a 165K mile tranny and it still shifts fine. very common myth....

that is true abought 1-2-1 shuffle.I just blew my trannie from doing that a week ago .it will kill your band fast . so now i had to get a new trannie kit w/red disks torque converter 3500 stall trans go shift kit harden input shaft ...I dont mind though i was getting ready to rebuild it ne ways.

The AOD and AODE don't hold up to abuse well at all. Drivers doing the 1-D-1 are the types that are pushing them as hard as they can go, otherwise I am not sure why it would damage the tranny. Maby the valve body in that setting doesn't allow proper fluid pressure to the bands it needs or something. Maby saving for a built C-4 or C-6 might be a good idea.

I've only got about 30k combined miles on 2 different AODs (in different cars) and I shifted them 1-2-1 regularly. They seemed to do alright for me. I'm not into automatics at all  , so I'm not about to argue whether or not it's a myth. I'm just saying that I never had any issues. Maybe I was just lucky.....good thing cause I was really broke when I had those cars.

I know of TWO hard driven stangs that get the 1-2-1 shuffle CONSTANTLY and neither one has had any problems, and one is at 100,000 miles approx and the other is way over 150,000. You just have to get good at it and do it smoothly I think. I'm sure it wears them out quicker, but I have never seen someone doing it and the tranny blow as they are 1-2-1 shuffling. Maybe it is bad I don't know, but I do it. Now getting stuck in the snow, THAT burns up some bands...

lol a daytona is a dodge, it doesn't count if you broke a dodge :p

Who the hell cares if you can break an AOD doing that. He is going to shove that POS over the bank and get a manual transmission anyways.

Too large a throttle body does NOT affect intake velocity at the ports. The only problem is that it is more difficult to meter engine throttle. So don't go putting on a smaller one trying to get more torque.

With a good intake and exhaust, I would say that car is at 230-240 flywheel horsepower.
