Alright somethings really getting on my nerves

LOL, I have no ac, manually shifted auto, slight hole in the floor that absolutely cooks ya where the shifter comes thru. (Exh is hella hot with that 6-71) and its a summer only car. Freakin hotter than hell inside, esp when you get stuck in traffic on a 100+ day. Oh ya, black vinyl roof.

No PS with 7" wide tires. Quit being a wuss.


WTF 10" steering wheel, sounds like a girly man wheel to me. LOL

you should try driving with a 351 sitting in that engine bay and a 5spd tons more fun, yes you do get a little help from tire slippage of the right footidus

You just described mine too, and I have had to do it with one hand for a while! I'm only 145lbs and don't mind manual steering at all (that and the manual brakes means no one else in my family bugs me to borrow it ).

How old is your manual steering box?

I used to think the same thing. I would be out of breath after parallel parking, and any parking lot scared me. I always had to plan things so I could make it into the spot. I bought a new manual steering box. It's much better. I'm planning on putting a 351C in my car, and I don't think I'll put in power steering. I think it works fine with manual.

Maybe manual isn't the thing for you, but I thought I'd mention my experience. I can't say I can easily steer with one hand when the car isn't moving, but once moving at any speed steering becomes easy.

As 390fe posted, size does matter, front tires that is. I forgot to mention on my previous post that my 65 coupe had Positraction 70 series tires on the back and VW 5.60x15 inch tires on the front, which made manual steering a cinch.

hm.. i always thought that being hard to drive (untill you get use to it) was part of the carm of a mustang. i dunno.
no P/S, P/B, A/C/ or discs here .

Did you try looking at Mustang restoration catalogs online? Seeing as how p/s came stock on a lot of 6cylinders, most suppliers have every part you need to convert to p/s.

I'm lazy, I just got a parts car and took all of the p/s assembly off of it and put it on mine.

I had manual steering with 17's and it was a bitch to turn. I now have power and wont ever look back unless I build a track car.

I must be a freak.

hmmmm i just pulled the entire front steering off my 66 mustang which was a 6cyl power steering.... i never drove it with that steering so i dont know how good it is but if you want you can have it all for like 40 bucks.... includes the power ram, centerlink, idler arm, pitman arm, and tie rods probably have to replace the bushings in it though

man you guys are wimps. try driving a 69 gt (competition suspension) with a 351, with ac and 235/60-15 tires and a 13" grant wheel in a car that has power steering that doesn't work. the power steering in my car didn't work from the time i got it until i parked it and started restoring it about 15 years with it like that. you guys with the 19:1 manual boxes have it it easy
