Alright somethings really getting on my nerves

I had a little wussie 8-10 inch aftermarket wheel in the car from the previous owner who mind you was a female. She sold the car becuase she wanted p/s and a/c. I put in a bigger steering wheel and it felt like power steering right away. And I plan on putting a/c as soon as the budget will permit it. Her loss is all I can say

haha man ya'll certainly love turning my threads around on me. I fill the tires up regularly. And I have the grant steering wheel thats basically the same size as the original mustang wheel. I must admit it changed everything compared to my little like 10 inch grant steering wheel i used to have

LOL, I have no ac, manually shifted auto, slight hole in the floor that absolutely cooks ya where the shifter comes thru. (Exh is hella hot with that 6-71) and its a summer only car. Freakin hotter than hell inside, esp when you get stuck in traffic on a 100+ day. Oh ya, black vinyl roof.

No PS with 7" wide tires. Quit being a wuss. :P

WTF 10" steering wheel, sounds like a girly man wheel to me. LOL

Sorry, just hot day and I'm ready to get out of here.

:rlaugh: I had a 65 with a 289, no AC, no PS, auto. Man was that car hot and hard to steer at low speeds. Still, I was SO HAPPY to have it, I'd have driven it with one hand if I had to.

You just described mine too, and I have had to do it with one hand for a while! I'm only 145lbs and don't mind manual steering at all (that and the manual brakes means no one else in my family bugs me to borrow it :nice: ).

Manual steering. Its such a hassle driving it with a standard. I need to be able to turn the steering wheel with ease with one hand since my other hand is shifting, lets say if i'm turning from a complete stop. Its such a bitch. Ahhh. Worst part is is that I only have my 200 ci and there arent any power steering kits for those in any mustang shops. Someone please help me, show me a way to make my 200 into power steering! I'm dying! Even if I only have the engine for one more year, i need power steering. Where can I get a kit for my 6 cyl?
How old is your manual steering box?

I used to think the same thing. I would be out of breath after parallel parking, and any parking lot scared me. I always had to plan things so I could make it into the spot. I bought a new manual steering box. It's much better. I'm planning on putting a 351C in my car, and I don't think I'll put in power steering. I think it works fine with manual.

Maybe manual isn't the thing for you, but I thought I'd mention my experience. I can't say I can easily steer with one hand when the car isn't moving, but once moving at any speed steering becomes easy.

I like all the helpful advice...

Did you try looking at Mustang restoration catalogs online? Seeing as how p/s came stock on a lot of 6cylinders, most suppliers have every part you need to convert to p/s.

I'm lazy, I just got a parts car and took all of the p/s assembly off of it and put it on mine.

hmmmm i just pulled the entire front steering off my 66 mustang which was a 6cyl power steering.... i never drove it with that steering so i dont know how good it is but if you want you can have it all for like 40 bucks.... includes the power ram, centerlink, idler arm, pitman arm, and tie rods probably have to replace the bushings in it though

man you guys are wimps. try driving a 69 gt (competition suspension) with a 351, with ac and 235/60-15 tires and a 13" grant wheel in a car that has power steering that doesn't work. the power steering in my car didn't work from the time i got it until i parked it and started restoring it about 15 years with it like that. you guys with the 19:1 manual boxes have it it easy :D

I have no problem with manual steering, but if you like manual brakes your a sadest :D

Don't you mean sadist? :D

I like my manual steering (19:1) with 205/50r16's. It feels just about right. Could use a smaller diameter steering wheel though, or even a quick steering kit.

All wheel power disk brakes with adjustable bias is the best though...

Well, I'm kind of a big guy (6' 4", 200), so maybe that's why manual brakes don't seem difficult to push to me. They bothered me a little bit when I had four wheel drums, but now with the front discs I'm pretty happy. I don't actually enjoy pain... .. really! :p
