Alternator Bracket with AFR185's ?

Hi all,

Just got my 351W swap in the car (68 coupe) and the OEM alternator bracket (302-351) doesn't line up with the holes in the AFR heads (AFR185).

Anyone experience this and know of another bracket that I should be using?

Hmmm,

Doesn't the 351W use a different alternator bracket than a 289/302?

I know my 289 alternator bracket works just fine with my AFR heads on a 289 block.

The 351 takes a bolt on bracket that offsets the holes to match the holes used on the 289/302 brackets so that they can be used. I have seen these offest brackets for both sides of the engine also.

If you do an internet search for Bronco engine conversions you should beable to find the adaptor bracket you need. 351w upgrades are common among Bronco guys.

I had to modify the adapter bracket for it to work with my Windsor Sr. Heads but the holes in the Winsor Sr.s are nothing like the stock holes, maybe the AFR's are? I dont know.

Hi all thanks for the replies. Talked to Dallas Mustang and they mentioned that the bracket the 351W is the same as the 289-302. Evidently they haven't seen this issue.

Checked the internet and only see one place that has a "different" bracket.

Like I said earlier, the bracket is the same as the 302 but you also need the bracket that bolts to the head with the offset holes in it so the 302 alternator bracket lines up. The 351 has a 1 inch taller deck height which makes the heads farther apart....there is no way the 302 bracket is going to work unless you also have the bracket with the offset mounting holes I have spoke of.
