Out running around this afternoon and all of a sudden we started smelling something like someone cutting steel Then I looked down at the amp gauge and it was reading about ten volts.
Where can I get the pigtail for the alternator??? Not the one for the voltage regulator but the one that plugs right into the alternator???

The replacement alternators are supposed to have a replacement wiring connector with two short wires to replace exactly what burned up on your wiring. Far to many guys just throw the replacement wiring connector away. The result is what you just experienced. The odds are that it probably damaged the alternator too. The local auto parts store can bench test your alternator for free - if you can find someone who can successfully run the tester...

Almost any auto parts store should have the replacement connector.

AutoZone P/N 232, cost $7
Advance Auto Parts PT780 $10

Caution: Solder the replacement pigtail on and use heat shrink tubing to cover the solder joint. Do it any other way and you will be sorry. Crimp and electrical tape is asking for trouble. See http://oldfuelinjection.com/?p=7 for soldering help. I highly advise you to read and follow their instructions.

You may want to consider a 3G alternator upgrade. - 130 alternator instead of the stock 65 amp unit.
