Alternator Issue

NOTE: this is not my alternator only an example

Was changing my battery out an noticed the connection from the battery to the alternator was red hot. I took the bolt off and it crumbled and broke off and the picture above of the red piece sticking up is the piece that melted.

Before I replace the alternator I just wanted to post here to see if anyone knew if that red piece is replaceable and what its called. :irritated:

all that is a adapter/spacer that moves the electrical connection to the top...no big deal and a replacement alt should come wth it....

Thanks, I was just hoping it was replaceable without getting a new alternator. I decided to replace it... only about 120 bucks after core charge. More painless then I thought.

The place I work at makes alternators. Not sure what the actual plastic piece is called but the connection is simply called the battery terminal, its part of the rectifier assembly.

It is possible that the connection was a little loose and this caused it to overheat and roast the red plastic cover.
