Ok, here is the problem the alternator will charge, but then will begin to stop charging, and it will not begin to charge again, and it doesn't always charge when the car is started. I was wondering if anyone has had this problem before and if anyone has any ideas on what this problem could be. No lights go on indicationg my battery is dying, except for the fact that my dashboard lights, and exterior headlights start to dim while I'm driving and the engine's power comes down quite a bit...

**The battery is brand new, the altenator is brand new (I kno it is possible the Alternator can still have a defect, but it's a less likly option)**

Any Ideas would be appreciated, if you have any questions, I can try to explain this more fully to you, but any ideas are great... thank you!

I would check the connection of the black and organge wire. I had a problem where the two black an orange wires joined into one on my car. The connection burned up there, and the alternator was not able to charge my battery.

If the alternator is going in and out like that I would say you have a bad ground. Alternators either work, or they dont. If you want, take your car to an auto store that can load test your charging system. This may help you diagnose the problem. I would check your battery ground, though. It sounds to me like you have a bad ground, and it's causing intermittent problems.

86StangLX is right I had the same problem and it was the ground wire to the block! replace with low guage wire (less resistance)

To add my 2 cents. Check the belt tensioner, if it's gone bad, it may cause the belt to slip a bit and your alternator won't be charging the batt. correctly like it should.

One more...
I've seen a lot of bad connectors lately. If there's any question, replace the connector(s) on the alternator wiring at the alternator.

Thanks for the help guys! I figured it out, it turned out to be the plugs that go into the altenator themselves were bad, and I heard they need sum replacing after a while, i did that and it works fine now, thanks for the help!
