Alternator problems!!!

About a year ago my alternator went out on me and I bought a new one that was chrome plated :nice: but was still a stock style. Now this piece of crap is going out on me too. :nonono: When i pull up at a stop light and i have my lights on radio on heater and brakes applied, it drops so low the radio turns off and my lights dim bad. :damnit: I have heard of people putting 140 amp alts. on there fox bodys but i cant find one. So if any one knows where i can get one or knows what the problem is with the one i have now please help me. Thanks alot!

You can have it professionally rebuilt or you can buy one...you can find ads in any mustang mag. Your underdrive pullies aren't helping any. Mine was fine before I put the pullies on, but now I have a drop in voltage when at idle with lights on. :nonono:

Here's websites with pictures of the 3G installation procedure...

For the right way to do the wiring. Some people will tell you that you can skip the wiring upgrade, but it will catch up with you sooner or later. A fire in the wiring harness is ugly and expensive.

Whatever you do, don't (don't ask me how I know) get a Powermaster 1 wire in a street car, especially if you have ANY other things running (heater, stereo, etc.) That being said, you can find them at Summit Racing, PA Performance, or have a reputable shop spin it up for you. A 3G alt can be re-driven up to 200 amps. Mine is a 3G 130 amp, cost me $150 to have it built- no core. Keeps up with all my accessories fine.

PA PERFORMANCE

1. Outstanding technical support. Even when I had stupid, obvious questions.
2. Very courteous sales staff. Helped me select the best product based on my needs.
3. Very nice units. Clean, simple installation made easy by GREAT photographic work instructions.
4. 4 gauge upgrade wire kit was a perfect fit. Supple, high wire count copper conductor was very flexible and easy to route.

Highly recommended.
