Alternator Pulley Q!

A friend of mine told me after i put my BBK underdrive pulley kit on, that the alternator pulley would kill my voltage. Is this true??

2. Yes, your voltage will drop when you are idling or at stoplights, but it will get right back up once you get past ~1000RPM. I believe the small drop in voltage is a good tradeoff for the horsepower you will regain.

You volt will drop at stop light but like they already have said it picks back up at 1000rpm no big deal with our alt.

I had a wierd case were my alt. died cause it was always having to charge (I have a multi amp setup). I swapped back to the stock alt. pullie along with the rest still underdriven and all has been fine.

I had to replace my alternator this summer and the new one came with a bigger pulley (bigger pully=underdriven), I figured the new alternator was designed to use a bigger pulley so I didn't swap my old one onto it. Well at idle my voltage drops to around 9 volts, then jumps back to 12 or so whenever i rev the car up past around 1000RPM. I hate it personally and I am planning on getting a stock pulley to fix the problem. Too bad when I turned my old alternator in for the core charge I left the old pulley on it

i would check the alt warranty - often times the warranty is voided if an overdriven pulley (vs what it came with) is used.

thanks guys. my idle is set at 1000, and i am sry bout the name... if i had known i had an almost twin, i would have made a diff name. but the good thing is, is that we have 2 things in common, names and cars.

That makes no sense to me, sounds like you got a defective alternator. No way in hell voltage should drop anywhere close to 9 volts even if the pulley was the size of a frisbee.

I had UDs on mine and when I went to the Turbo, it seemed to get worse. I bought a stock one from Ford (about $12) and it helped. I am still losing a little when the bass hits so I am going to install a capacitor to help. That should fix all the problems.
