Alternator question

OEM alt style just went bad. Should I move from 3 wire to 1 wire? What about going up in amps to 100. Would I have to also upgrade wiring? I don't have a bunch of add ons to draw power , moderate stereo. I've seen some nice 100amp chrome 1 wire on ebay , but is it really worth it , or should I stick with OEM 80 amp?

I went to one wire on both my 66 and 67. Solved my amp problems, I needed it for elec. fan cooling and other add ons. Had trouble with Chrome units, they are slower to dissipate heat.

Did you move up in amps? if so did you have to rewire much?

stepping up to a 100 amp alternator is a good idea. you will have the change the wire from the alt to the battery to an 8 gauge minimum. i recommend actually stepping up to a 3G alternator. there are conversion kits for the wiring available.

I swapped to the 100-amp 1-wire to clean-up the engine bay, since there internally regulated you can get rid of the box on the fender.

i just switched to a gm 3-wire. 94amp and only $100 from autozone (lifetime warranty). the wiring was easy.

i don't blame you there.
the gm alt can be wired as a 1-wire. just goes from the alt to the batt side of the starter solenoid. doesn't get much easier than that.
