Within the next few weeks I hope to order a new high output alternator, currently I am looking at the 130amp unit from Mr. Alternator. This can be found here . If anyone has had any experience or heard any feedback about this vendor please post it here. Also I don't know what type of pulley to use, the car is a 66 mustang, 289, and the engine came stock with p/s, a/c, and a smog pump. Not sure if this engine config uses a different pulley setup than a normal 289

Also post any other recommendations that you feel I should look into :nice:

no experince with that company, but your setup should use the 1 groove v-pulley, expect to do some wiring though as you will have to rewire the circuit since this alternator is internally regulated and your current setup is externally regulated

Thanks for the heads up on the wiring, being internally regulated is actually one of the reasons I like it so much. I've already searched the classic section of this forum about alternator installs and haven't seen too many regarding the 3g's mostly the one wire type swaps so I'm sure this will be an entertaining few days when I get the new alternator in  :nice:

No clue, that is why I'm asking questions. I am constantly lost unless I can work with something, reading helps little to none but it does help.
I do not want to post any factual errors, but I thought they were the same. Regardless, the 1-wire alternator is so easy it hardly needs a write-up. Take the output wire to a place where it reaches the B+ circuit. On a classic stang that is usually the starter relay.

My father got a higher amp alternator with the internal voltage regulator for his '68 Chevy. He got it from Mr. Alternator and had them install and rewire it(their shop wasn't too far). I seem to recall it wasn't too expensive, but it was a long time ago. The truck ran much better after that.

I have a 200 amp alternator I got from them - it was easy to install, and works flawlessly. Just be sure to upgrade the battery wiring to at least 4 gauge when you put it in.

(If you're thinking about adding a heavy-duty sound system as some point, you might as well just dump 0/1 gauge wire on it - saves you the trouble of having to do it later.)

Like someone said, wiring the 3g is so easy it shouldnt even need a write up, this .pdf file will tell you how to do it though since doing it the first time may be a little intimdating. That price you paid for it im not to sure about. I can get a rebuilt one from Autozone with a 1 year warranty for $90 and a lifetime warranty for $125 i think. I got a brand new one from my friend for $40.

3g Install

I went with a Powermaster one wire with just the one wire to the battery side of the starter solenoid. Removed the voltage regulator and cut and taped back the excess wiring. My alt came with two pulleys, the one that was installed was for a serpentine so I had to remove it with an impact wrench and put the single groove pulley on. Very easy install.
