Alternator upgrade

Anyone know of a v-groove pulley to work with a late model alternator? I've got a 110 Amp off a 90 SuperCoupe and need a proper pulley to work with the stock v setup. Powermaster provides a v belt pulley with their kit, but doesn't have it available separately.

Why dont you just buy the powermaster alt. Then you dont have to fuss with the mounting and wiring.

Don't cringe:

I use a 100 amp GM, 1-wire alternator on my 64.5 with a March pully set-up.

- GM is cheaper
- GM cheaper to repair
- it's only a spacer difference
- Gets rid of that darned external regulator
- simplifies the harness considerably.

Not a purest...just like giddy-up-and go!

That's what I use. Haven't had a problem. I think it was a unit from an 85 camaro.

Hmmm....$150+ for a powermaster alt, vs...20 bucks and a little, and I do mean tiny, bit of connection work....two wires in fact...you do the math. The later alt mounts exactly the same as the original.

The pulleys do interchange, or at least fit on the shaft. The v groove pulley meets the alt housing before it seats correctly, and the center is thicker than the late model pulley, preventing the nut & washer from being installed.

And just for Tom B...if it's going to require expensive machine work to make it fit, then the powermaster alt does make more sense. But like some other people here...I'm a cheapskate..if it can be done on the cheap but good scale, I'm all for it.

The later alt is an internal regulator, so I can ditch the external reg also.

So I could use this orange magnum gm alternator and make it work? (With March pulley kit, which I plan on using anyway?)

Should be the same as the Powermaster setup.

I did a writeup a while back that details how to remove all of the excess regulator wiring when switching to a 1-Wire setup.

I switched from a stock unit to the 85 or 86 camaro alt. w/ march pullies and it fits.
