Well, after reviewing the answers to my post on running hot w/UD pullies, I think the best thing to try is an electric fan + a new alternator to handle the increased load at idle. The response suggested a 3g alternator pulling 135 amps.

Q. Is this the type found on the '94 & '95 SN95's? If yes, is it a simple bolt-on to my '93 5.0? Do I need a different sized belt? Anything else I'm missing?

Thanks and merry christmas,

Ralph

Yea the 94-95 will work. I have one myself but have not installed yet. From what I understand it is not a direct bolt on but pretty close. Will need a minor modification to make fit. And the wiring is different. Could prolly use the same belt.

A while back someone posted a website with a tutorial on how to do the swap. You have to notch the bracket, and do a little wiring work. One other thing you may consider, check out this link http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=4723&prmenbr=361
That one will bolt up with no mods at all.

Been there & done that... 3G alternator's a good upgrade.

I had to file the mount ear on the upper idler pulley mount to get it to fit easy. You also need to have a 3/8" bolt & nut to go through the alt mount ear and the idler pulley mount. I totally rotary filed out the web that most people just notch. It looks factory now, mutch neater than just hacking a notch in the web. Works great and I am looking forward to installing a Mark VII electric fan later on. Cost was $150 from Autozone, used my old alt for the core. Wiring cost me about $17 including the 125 amp fuse with holder and 4 gauge wire.

Here's websites with pictures...

OR

For the right way to do the wiring. Some people will tell you that you can skip the wiring upgrade, but it will catch up with you sooner or later. A fire in the wiring harness is ugly and expensive.
