Aluminum Block?

I was wanting to swap the short block in my 02 GT and was wondering if the 05 and later blocks were aluminum and if they were capable of handling more power than short block currently between my fenders. I was hoping to pick one of these late model short blocks up, slap the new TFS 2V heads on it with their cams and intake and run with that for a while. The alternative would to build my short block up the same way, but i don't want to be out of transportation for that long. Any input would be much appreciated.

The internals are the same and the block itself will handle more power than you can afford .

If its a 4v block, you will need to drill a coolant passage hole on the driver side of the block.

just get an teksid aluminum block from ebay.. i heard they can stand 1000+ hp. i got mine for like $300

Motor mounts are different. You'll need some type of adaptor.

Can the 05 and later block handle more power stock than the 99-04? Any benefits from this doing this swap or am i better off just building up my current short block? I was even thinking of putting a 5.4 in there, any comments?

As stated earlier, get the teksid block, found in the 93-98ish Lincoln mark VIII and cobra (identical). It is aluminum and is the strongest factory aluminum block. Because it was so common in the mark VIII, and is older now, it is also the cheapest. I've bought a couple from local U-pull it yards for 80-120$ to resell. Don't even bother with the 3V block when you have such a cheap and strong option available.

If you want a 5.4, I don't know if there are any aluminum options available. Look at trucks, but it they probably all came with iron blocks. The deck height is higher to allow for the longer stroke, so the 4.6 block won't fit a standard 5.4 configuration. Personally, I don't see any reason to go 5.4L. You will still be limited by flow from the intake and head, so ultimate power will be similar, making it not worth the extra cost.

Thanks for the help. I'll look around for one of those blocks. I see you're in Lenexa, I am from Overland Park. Do you know of any local places there that would have one of these blocks? My old man drives out to California in the summers to visit and he could bring it with him.

aside from the markVIII and the cobra engines being the same this is good info. the cobra's had forged cranks (8 bolt crank/flywheel) the Mark VIII's did not (6 bolt crank/flywheel) the mark VIII aluminum block will be easier to swap into a GT because of this. plus you can find them at junkyards pretty easy.
