im doing gears very soon..still debating but im thinking 3.73's because of the high highway driving rpms..which would be annoying. when doing gears, is this a good time to get an aluminum driveshaft and have them install that at that same time, and for how much it cost (i think like 230), is it worth it? what gains can i expect from one?

It is just a more balanced shaft.
It absorbs vibrations better too.
Most high performance and luxury cars have them stock.
It will make a gain of a couple of ponies due to the lighter material.
If any gains are made you won't feel it.

+1. search, you'll find a wealth of info about it

Gear selection is your choice. But only way I'd do 3.73's with a 3650 tranny is if a turbo setup or a positive displacment blower is in your future.
Now for the driveshaft, I finally got my AL one and it made a slight difference car seems to spin up a hair faster and is a little easier to break the tires loose. Is it worth 230+ well it wasn't to me I waited and picked up a used one. But I'm cheap.

my thoughts exactly.. 4.10's are the way too go.. even 4.30's are good too.. 3.73's are just not enough gear on these cars.. i know a lot of non 4.6 owning people will tell you different but trust us on this.

and about the driveshaft.. i have 4.10's and do not have a vibration issue.. most vibration issues come up after gear installs because the driveshaft was not indexed.. the shop throws it up any old way.. you need too mark the shaft and the flange ont he rear end and line it up that way when your done putting the gears in..

I like my 3.73s  . I think my 1/4 times speak for them selfves :D. BUT 4.10s definatly wouldnt be to much with my current combo. Either way you should be happy. I have heard of a few people that didnt like the 3.73s...never heard anyone complain about the 4.10s. I just like turning 2K @ 67MPH :D...and being able to run up to well past 120 in 4th if I need to.

67mph I'm turning like 2200rpm. Now 120+ in 4th nope more like 115 or so but then again that is illegal and none of us do anything illegal right. :rlaugh:

Id personnaly would go with 4.10s, but since you do a lot of highway 3.73s will save you a bit more on gas.
For the al driveshaft I would get one just so you dont get the vibration that I hear alot of people get when the change the gears. It spins faster than stock but you will not notice any gains from it, you will be free of vibration thouh which would be a good thing.

i had 4.10s in a 98 auto gt, and a 04 auto mach 1.. only way to go!!! unless u go 430's.. if u have a 5 speed, go 4.10's... also i had to get an aluminum DS for both these cars, the vibrations tore the ass end of the tailshaft out, on both!

I'm very happy I selected 3.73's. Perfect for me. (And snow/ice/highway driving.) The aluminum d/s will help remove any vibration you may get from a gear swap. I had to install mine right after I got gears. It totally took away all vibration.
