aluminum mechanical fan?

I had an 18" Flex-a-Lite mechanical fan, it looked good with the polished blades and all but it made the most godawful groaning/whirling noise all the time. Not the good kind of whirling like a S/C either. The noise started at about 1,000 RPM and the higher you got, the louder the noise got of course. You could always hear it over the exhuast and on the highway it had the drone effect you get with an offroad mid-pipe.

On the plus side, teamed with a 180 degree thermostat the car never, ever, got hot, even in traffic. Infact, the car stayed at the bottom of the normal range all the time. But with my stock clutch fan back on now it still does that so its probably mostly the thermostat.

My dad actually gave it to me 'cause it scraped his A/C billet cover thing on his '86. But he got it from A&A auto and I think it was around 70-80 bucks.

It does its job, but the sound will get annoying quick and you won't like the weird looks you'll get.
