Aluminum Spacer Fabrication.. Anyone

Hey all,

I need to have a spacer block fabricated, preferably out of aluminum.

I called around and local shops want to charge me between $40-50.

Here are the dimensions.

1” Thick x 2 1/8” Long with 2 - 1/4” Holes or slots drilled into it.

1"x 2-1/8"


Know of a cheaper place or can any of you make it for me for less?

most shops are going to charge an hourly rate for labor, and usually have a minimum time that they charge for. all i can say is keep checking, look for places that are small and have been around for a long time. many of those older guys give you a break on price, unless you need it right away.

I'm sitting in a machine shop right this minute and those quotes sound about right considering material cost and machine setup.

See if you can get a couple of 12mm AL pieces cut by laser, unless you really need it to be one piece. They may have a minimum price though, we do.

Do you own a hack saw? How about a drill? Buy the material from www.onlinemetals.com and make it yourself. You left out 1 dimension so it was hard for me to figure out what eactly size you would need. Here is an example of 1 inch thick by 2 inch wide by 1 foot long for less than 12 bucks. http://onlinemetals.com/merchant.cfm?pid=1186&step=4&showunits=inches

Aluminum is really quite easy to work with.

I can laser cut stainless steel. I would need to know that third dimension though. I would need Length x width x height...Looks like you just have Lenght x width. Also how do the 2 1/4" holes need to be spaced? Email me if you have any questions... e_VIPER_t@hotmail.com If it's like 1/4" thick or less, I can smoke that $40.00 figure.

Yeah I figured that was an average charge for a Machine Shop.. I was just looking for a cheaper alternative..
