:SNSign:

I've been having issues with my gauges after a rebuild a few years back. My oil pressure gauge was reading off the scale, voltmeter rather low, and temp gauge all over the place including indicating my radiator should've exploded! I searched this forum and found a few threads talking about adding a chassis ground. I did so last night and now, miracle of miracles, my factory gauges actually work properly!!! My dash lights are now brighter, too.
To all those with factory gauges that are acting up with funny readings, add a chassis ground. you'll be amazed at the result.

Can you give some more info as to where you added yours and the size of wire? When my engine comes out this winter, a new battery cable was in the plans. My guages aren't acting right.

I'm really thinking of relocating the battery while I'm at it, too.

I used a driver's side engine mount-to-block bolt and ran a braided #6 wire to the back of the strut tower. I crimped ring-eyes to the cable using stuff from my work.

Wow, that's all it took? Very nice. 8)

Hey does your stock tach work now? That was the first of mine to fail. It spins around and does crazy things. LOL

I'll try to post some tonight. The space is cramped but I'll try my best.

So now you have two engine grounds?

My tach was never screwed up and has always worked. This does not mean yours isn't afflicted with the same problem, however. Check to see if you still have your factory-installed grounding strap on the driver's side. It's a flat braided cable screwed to the "frame" and engine mount. If it's not there, replace it. It would appear that the strap is important.

You should have already had a ground from the driver's side mount to the frame rail. Was yours missing?

You can also mirror that same idea on the passenger side for an extra power ground. I used 4 AWG cable instead of a strap, though the strap should work well.

Yes, my strap was disconnected. I pulled the engine a few years ago and the original strap's ring eye broke off. I just never fixed it until now because I didn't think it was that crucial to the gauges and such.
Dumb! Dumb! Dumb!
