Amp meter not working

Ok so my battery charges but my amp meter show a negitive current. My car has a 1 wire power master alt upgrade but I would like to get my amp meter in my dash to work correctly. How do I do this. My car is a 86 i believe that is the last year of a amp meter before they switched to volt meter. Any help would be appreciated. thx in advance.

Does it fluctuate with rpm changes? If so, then its because you wired with one wire and its reading discharge.

it doesn't seem to fluctuate with rpm. it just reads in the negitive when the engine is running.

Your ammeter works just as well now as when it was new. So, what's the big deal?

"One of these days", I'm going to replace the non working ammeter with a voltmeter. That POS ammeter caused me to get stranded when my alternator died and I didn't have any indication.

I just want it to work was wondering if anyone had a diagram of how the thing is wired or if there is some test I can perform to see if the gauge is even still working.
