So when I bought the new cams for my car (p.i. nothing really special) I also picked up that anderson cam gear retention tool. Has anyone here used that? the concept is really cool and after I'm done with it I can sell it to the shop I work at so it's win-win for me.

Has anyone used this though... I plan on doing the cams sometime this week and I'm not 100% sure where to put this thing (enter snide comment here). I guess when I have the cam covers off it'll make more sense but I was wondering if someone here had some insider info.

Well after the ol' credit card is payed down a little I think it might be time to buy some plenum/throttlebody action...

^ haha I thought the title was on purpose....I wouldnt sell mine to anyone. It sucks that bad. . I just used vice grips and a metal rod to hold the cam gears up....MUCH MUCH safer.

Yeah that would have been a great title!! Too bad I just messed up keystrokes

so....vice grips and a metal rod huh?

for example: you took the old cam out and quickly shoved in a metal rod in place of it, whild holding it with vice grips as to not pinch your hand?

Please explain more:

The July muscle mustangs and fast fords has a cam swap in it where they show you where to put the AFM cam changing tool.

On the passenger's side cam gear, there are holes throughout the gear.. he put the metal rod thru a hole, against the head.. that way when it tried to move, it couldnt because the rod was holding it in place.

The vice grips were used on the driver's side cam gear, since it has no holes and it's just solid. He clamped it down on the chain/cam on each side of the cam gear and it held it sturdy enough to where it wouldnt jump a tooth or come off

Or that's how I understood it
