300ZX used a T5... Those probably had a metric thread on the top cover.

On another board, they said the new one is the correct 5.0 T5 and the old one is some other t5.

That's correct, the new one is the right Mustant t-5 cover.

The old original one is one i've never seen before.

If you get a NSS for a Mustang, it should fit the new one. Your old one is the unique one. I have a T-5 cover right here and the cover and threads look like your new one

It's called an NSS switch, or Nuetral start safety switch. You can run the car without it, but you won't be able to pull codes.

To me it looks to be a 1/2 or 3/4 pipe thread. Goo that route to cap it off as you dont really need it! Just dont forget and take it out of gear or push the clutch in before you start it. My 4 cyl with a t-5 has that same thing and with it in gear and no clutch it will start Your old t-5 is an older one and the new one is a newer one ummm does that make sence? peace
