My car has been on jack stands for almost 2 weeks now because of one F'ING LITTLE THING. I bought a rebuilt trans for it, and i dropped my old one out. When I put the two trannies up together, they were a little bit different. The driveshaft fits on both so it will work, but here is the thing that is PISSING ME OFF:mad:

Old Trans:

This sensor, threads into that hole in the center of the pic.

New Trans:

As you can see, the hole for the sensor is on the OTHER side on and the thread size is different (the hump on the other side has no opening). My first question is, WTF is this sensor???? I know I dont need it for the car to run, because it was not even connected in the first place. I would just plug it up, but I cant find a bolt the right size(thread is unique i think). So please, if ANYBODY has one laying around, i will give you like $20 for it. The model numbers on both the trannies are exactly the same, and I specified for a 91 5.0 trans. So its just really really pissing me off.

I have tried finding it at o'rielleys, autozone, and even the ford dealership. Nobody knows what it is much less being able to order it.

So is it an issue of sensor just not reaching? You could just splice in some longer wires. Or is it an issue of the sensor not threading in?

He said the thread is different. I'm thinking the top of the tranny is probably from another T5 application besides a Fox Mustang. I'd also contact the rebuilder and see what they have to say. I guess he could swap out the tops on the trannys, but he shouldn't have to do that with a fresh rebuild.

yep ,issed that just went back and re-read. Can you just run the numbers off of this tranny and find the sensor that goes with it and splice the new sensor into your wiring?

Doesn't anyone ever read the manual? It is a free download. See http://www.ttcautomotive.com/English/onlineorder/product.asp to download a FREE service manual for T5 or Tremec 3550/TKO
You will need the Adobe Acrobat viewer which is also a free download – http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

The "sensor" isn't a sensor at all. It is the switch that operates the backup lights.

The hole in the top of the trans case is for the neutral safety switch that is used to tell the computer it is safe to dump the engine running codes.

On another board, they said the new one is the correct 5.0 T5 and the old one is some other t5.

I looked at my original T5 this morning and I have to agree. The top looks like the new one. Ford should have the right part then.

EDIT: I see Jrichker beat me to it !

I would get a cover with new shift forks from a 94-95 mustang t-5, they are a bit stronger and can handle more abuse. Or you can just swap the covers over and it should work fine, T-5's have been used in camaros, mustangs and some imports, so it wont be un-common to find minor differences in all of them.
