I have flowmaster 40series and a BBK O/R H pipe. I am planning on keeping the flows, and eventually going to the American Thunder. But right now I want to get long tubes. I will have to ditch the H pipe. My question is whats the best long tube and mid pipe combo? I am looking for the loudest combo. Thanks.

If you are looking for strictly the loudest ...straight pipes into the mufflers with no cross over or balance tube ...but as far as the BEST header/midpipe combo ...definetly the X ...its loud enough when you get on it and it just sounds MEAN...sounds better than the H in my opinion ...but quieter than the H until you get into the higher rpms ...i have an X pipe and flowmasters on my '96 and I love it ... btw why would you switch to american thunder if you already have 40s? youll get the delta flows with the a/t

i heard most side exhausts actually rob hp i heard hookers make great hp but they are more expensive and wider so u gotta use their midpipe and im not sure about sound, if u want volume get dynomax race muffs, buddy of mine had them on a '96 with dumps and u could hear him coming a mile off

FYI, here's a comparison test of 3 different catback systems (Bassani, Magnaflow & SLP) done on a Mach I. Magnaflow outperformed the other two:

is there going to be much of a difference between the mach 1 and my car? Well let me rephrase that...Will the numbers be on the same ratio system?

I'm only guessing but since the Mach I is a DOHC and the GT is a SOHC, then the numbers for the GT will be lower than the Mach I (12.5 RWHP and 8.2 RWT increase above the baseline dyno run, with Magnaflows). However you should still get some significant gains with Magnaflow (maybe in the range of 7-11 RWHP).

Also, if you read the whole article, there is a blurb about the K&N CAI that was on the Mach I actually hurt the performance on the lower end because it was causing a lean condition in the A/F ratio.

yeah i saw that. but my main goal is for it to be loud. The SLP seemed to be the loudest, and still had decent gains...9 RWHP and 15 RWT

Around here (CA) if you have a loud exhaust, you can get a ticket if it exceeds 85 decibels or whatever the police think is too loud just by listening. That's what is nice about Magnaflow is that it is not too loud at idle but really turns heads at WOT.

Magnapacks or Dyno Max Bullets.......SLP sounds too much like a tractor....

If all you want is loud, just run no mufflers....sounds just like the SLP but without the cost.

A wee bit off topic, but I am curious...How does your BBK offroad H sound with the flows? I would imagine its pretty loud. Does it have the deep sound?
