Well officially, 02+ is 6 qts.
My 02 takes 6 qts, but my wife's 01 only calls for 5 qts. In the end, use the dipstick to guage how much to put in. FOr me, I just dump 6 and forget about it.

Check this thread out. There's a TSB that addresses the dipstick reading issues. Looks like the sticks read all over the place.

Yea my 96 takes 6. You have to take filter capacity into consideration. If you change the filter (which you always should), it usually takes one extra quart of oil to fill it up. This has been my experience in every car I've owned.

Edit: And NO I don't mean the filter can hold a full quart of oil.....before someone flames me about that.....lol.

To the people whose car takes 6 quarts. Is your block a Windsor block (8 bolt crank) or Romeo (6 bolt crank)? If the 8th digit in your vin is an X then its a Windsor. Mine is a Windsor and takes 6 quarts, anybody else?

Mine also is a Windsor. Is that supposed to make a difference in the amount of quarts? I heard that all 4.6's take 6 quarts.

Well guys I've worked at a lube shop for 2 years. I own a 01 Mustang, it takes 5.5 qts, and I've worked on 02s and 03s and they took 5.5-6.0qts.
