Ok ill get to it. i blew out a plug tonight on my way home from work. driving slow and shifted to 3rd and bam!, there it went. i did hear ticking earier in the day and thought it was an an exhaust leak and figured id look at it tomorrow, and after a long night of work i hopped in my car and forgot about it anyway. the plug is the 2nd from the front on the drivers side. i want to know cause ive been searching for a while now, where was that repair kit that somebody, idk who, posted in a thread a few weeks ago. what else have you guys done in this situation other than replace the head that has cost less than 200 and held up good. if it gets to be a 300+ dollar fix for these ****ty heads, imma have to get some new ones, aftermarket.., but i really dont want to dish out the cash now, i just did gears and my money is low. this sucks so much, but somebody plz hit me with some good advice :bang: btw, i did install the plugs myself and theyve been in for 9 months now, used antiseize on the threads as well.. so i guess i barely didnt turn that one enough or something. idk. the plugs are ngk tr6's. thanks to all who help out

ok im looking a tthe timesert kit but you cant buy it one their site and their distributors page is long and everyone of the distribotors websites is real confusing and i cant even find the product on there. any of you guys who bought this kit.. where did you get it. i need some solid input and where to get what i need, not just redirected all over the place

Heads made after 2005 are of the updated design and have nine threads instead of the four that the original design had.

Additionally, there is the possibility of cylinder wall damage when spark plug blowout occurs due to metal shavings being drawn into and scoring the walls of the combustion chamber.

seriously, dont change your plugs. i never thought this would happen to me, cause i followed the specs perfectly and put em at 10ftlb of torque. this sucks soo much.

more seriously, where the hell do you buy this timesert kit? i think this is the way im gonna go if i can find out where to buy it.

kt.. i dont even want to think about the other damage that could have occurred but you sure are right. i hate ford so much and the longer i own this piece that i love somehow, the more it kills me

YOU HAVE GOTTA BE KIDDING ME!!! I finally found the kit and its close to 400$$$ for some f in bolts and inserts. why didnt anyone bring this up?? omg how can ford let a 2 dollar and 95 freakin cent spark plug cost you 400+ dollars when you know u did the install right but its the fact that only half a thread goes into the head. they might as well expected them to float in there somehow those fin idiots. did u guys who use time sert pay that for the kit?? can i borrow urs for some $$.. this is rediculous and i dont got time for this bull ****

umm....it shouldve been torqued at 13 ft./lbs. that was your problem. i learned this the hard way also. as of now, my mustang is sitting in my driveway with the same spark plug blown out of the head. mine were torqued in there 13 ft./lbs when i put them in 18 months ago. i guess the heads are no good and everyone suggests checking the torque on all your spark plugs at least every other oil change. im buying my used timesert kit from another stangnet member. when im done with it ill let you know. ill pitch it to you for the same price im getting it for.

A lot of good that does for us 2V guys :notnice:

Yep, they should have been torqued to 13 ft. lbs.

For those saying that they will never change their plugs, don't worry about it, just do it right to begin with and this will NOT happen.

Always remove the plugs when the engine is COLD!

Always blow the dirt out of the spark plug wells with compressed air BEFORE removing the plugs.

Use the CORRECT Motorcraft replacement plugs.

Put a VERY THIN coat of COPPER BASED anti-sieze on the spark plug THREADS ONLY.

Start them carefully by hand then TORQUE WITH A TORQUE WRENCH TO 13 FT. LBS.

If you will do this, you will not have any spark plug problems unless the head was screwed up previously.

Using the insert kit is fine, but REMOVE the head before doing it. There are those who will do this with the head in place, but getting chips in the cylinder is NOT a good thing.

Best of luck,

I agree with everything you said except:
-even properly installed or factory installed plugs can blow out
-antiseize has not been proven definitively to be a good idea
-there is no need to remove the head to do a time sert

One other thing to mention, there is a guy on SVTPerformance who timeserted all eight of his spark plug holes to prevent blowout from occuring. Could this be a good idea?

yea exept for the fact that the kit is 400 for five inserts.

and to mbdiagman and rgeezy, im not buying that. one, because i used specs given to me in instuctions that said from 7-15 ft lbs.

And two, because YOUR telling me thats why they blew out, when you have the SAME problem and you torqued them to 13 ftlbs yourself! go figure that one
