Im getting closer to getting a supercharger. I'm not completely sure if Im going with a paxton novi 1000 or the base vortech kit. I posted a thread to get videos of the paxton novi 1000 but only got one response and it wasn't a very good video. I like that the v-1 is loud but I'm leaning towards the novi 1000. I hope the novi 1000 isn't too quiet though. Anyways, I was doing some research on the differences between the two kits and there was a debate on helical cut gears and straight cut gears. Here is what someone posted....

"The differences is the V1 has straight cut gears which generates all the noise. The V2-SQ has helical cut gears which has almost no noise. This also plays a potential difference in reliability. Helical cut gears generate additional thrust on the bearings which can promote wear. Straight cut gears have nearly no perpendicular thrust and are generally more reliable."

Is this true? Reason I ask is because the novi 1000 has helical cut gears. Also, once again if anyone has any video or sound clips of the novi 1000 please post them. Or if you can tell me how the novi 1000 sounds compared to a v-1.

I would not be selecting a supercharger based upon the noise it made. Get past that then start looking at efficiency ratings with and without an intercooler vs. kit cost vs. average power made vs. costs for required items not included in each manufacturers kit.

Be sure to factor in the cost of tuning as well as the cost of larger fuel injectors and pump.

Noise is crap... it won't make your car any faster.

Also with dagger here.. this has got to be the 3rd or 4th thread I've seen u make in relation to blower sounds.

Its not exactly tech IMO either.

Just buy the one that fits the wallet and make the most power.. because in the end THATS what will matter when someone is sitting in the other lane.

I had the v-1 SC trim on my 88lx. I too bought it because of how loud the whine is.

Thought it was a great add to the car, helped performance out alot.

It is only loud at idle, once you get to 2000rpms you can't hear it anymore.

I would sometime get to me while sitting in traffic, Alot of stop and go traffic lights that whine could drive a normal man crazy.

On a positive note, I can say that the whole time I had the vortec the rice-burners wouldn't bother me.

If you get tired of every honda retard at a stoplight reving his engine to get you to race him. Than the vortec is for you.

Emagine: You are pulling up to a stoplight and you see a ricer in the next lane.

He is saying to his buddy :alright look at this looser in the mustang coming:

Just than you pull next to him and everything in normal, Until your car's idle starts to drop from stopping.

Now he hear the whine coming from the hood and know what it is right away.
He may not know what your car can do but he will reconize the sound, and suddenly the guy who thought about reving his engine at you doesn't.
:hail2:

I'm not necessarily going for sound, I did want to know how much quieter the novi 1000 is. However if you read my post, I was asking about the helical vs. straight cut gears which would be a tech type question. Basically seeing if that holds any truth or not because that might change whether or not I go paxton or vortech. Also, if you search online you can find a ton of vortech vids but i haven' found a decent novi 1000 vid.

the novi 1k all day over a base vortech

relativley quite, untile you put a power pipe on.
once your run it at its full potential pulley wise,
(3 in blower, 8 in crank,) which is a amazing pulley combo, on a stock
motor, it would net you about 15 psi, it is Loud at idle.
but out of the box its got a tiny whine to it.
