Another spindle question?

What do you guys recomend using for a 5 lug swap. Either 94-95 spindles or the 96+ spindles and why? I know that the 96+ widen the track slightly, but I am wondering if this is perfered or if the 94-95 is the way to go.

Depends on the car alot of Fox cars don't like the extra 3/8 of track the 96 up kit gives for tire clearance reasons

I used '94 v6 spindles and it seems like most people use the '94-'95 ones to keep the same track width.
Since most people use newer model Mustang wheels when doing a 5 lug swap its preferred to use those spindles instead of '96+ ones because of the offset.
If using aftermarket wheels you can use either spindle as long as you get the right backspacing.

Well, I guess I understand the wheel fittment issue, but I would probably do a custom wheel so I could order what ever offset I need. So besides the wheel fitment issue, are there any other advantages?

About a Year ago someone on the Corral put up the Blueprints for the Spindles, 94-95s will increase your Stock Track Width by about 5mm per side, the 96-04s will add "another" 8mm per side. If you have Bumpsteer Issues you can stick with 94-95s and use 91-93 Tie Rod Ends or a Bumpsteer Kit, the 96-04s seem to handle Bumpsteer slightly better. My personal choice is to stick with 94-95s.

It is easier to use the 94-95 spindles if you are going with a common wheel, but if you are going custom you can get away with either.

8mm is about 5/16"....not 3/8". Take an 8mm socket out of your tool set and look at the gap....it isn't much at all. I am using them with my 81 notchback. Reason....I am using the 2001 rear end. That puts the wheels out 1-1/2" on each side outward. So I will take all I can get on the front. 8mm will be better than nothing. It won't hurt either way.

Oh great. How come I haven't heard this before?? I think I will still be OK. I will get the left side on Saturday and I will mount the wheels and hang the fenders and see where they are at. If it looks bad I will switch to the 94-95's. I have both, so we will see what happens. Thanks.........

Thats my bad as my Post was probably not clear enough, the 96-04s will be 13mm Wider than "Stock" per side. The 94-95s are 5mm Wider Per Side and the 96-04s are 8mm Wider than the 94-95s.

Corrent, the dimensions that they increase are not correct

BOTH will increase your track...94-95 about 5mm and 96+ about 13mm total over the fox spindle

the 96+ offers better geometry and bumpsteer prevention.


Performancewise 96+ > 94-95...but then there is the whole offset issue.

Aftermarket wheels usually negate this, but with Ford 8 and 9" wheels, 94-95 is preferred.



Why most people haven't heard this is because Mustang myths spread like wildfire.
