Hello,

I could use some advice from the wise-ones. The '94 could use some new dampers. It has Eibach springs (~ 1.5" drop) on 17X8" rims (245/45/17's if it matters to anyone).
In reading threads, it seems like some guys like to use fox dampers on lowered SN's. Is this the way to go? I dont care much (except that fox stuff is cheaper), but I dont want to compromise suspension travel.

Budget definately matters so I was lookin' at non-adjustable KYB's. If anyone has run Eibach's and those dampers, please chime in with thoughts. Are there any other dampers I should be looking at instead (relatively similar price range)? I am not too picky; the ride is pretty brutal as it is - I think these struts/shocks have seen better days.

And if you guys do like to use fox parts, do you also use fox shocks in the rear? It seems like some guys run fox struts but use SN shocks out back. What is best? That will help me figure out what package (or piece-meal) components to get.

As always, vendors, part numbers, etc are very much appreciated! Please be specific about what flavor was used (I dont know a Gr 2 from a Gas-adjust so I need specifics).

I thank you for any and all thoughts!

HISSIN,

YOU'VE ALWAYS GIVEN ME GOOD ADVICE SO NOW I'LL RETURN THE FAVOR. I WAS LOOKING AT KYB ALSO BUT WAS TOLD THAT THEY WEREN'T MUCH BETTER THAN STOCK IF AT ALL. THEY TURNED ME ONTO TOKICO HP'S NON-ADJ. I WAS ALSO TOLD TO USE 87-93 ON A LOWERED CAR B/C THE STRUT/SHOCK IS SHORTER. IN THE END I BOUGHT THE 94-95'S. IN FACT THE 87-93 IS $5 MORE. SEE ATTACHED. IHOPE THEY ARE IN YOUR PRICE RANGE. THEY RIDE VERY GOOD.

I have the KYB's and it rides nice with my C-springs (pretty stiff springs and loose shocks). My problem is that the rear bottoms out pretty easily. I have honeslty thought about going with the NAPA HD shocks in the back ($25 each I think), I need something with a little more damping. Now granted when it does not bottom out it rides very nice...

IMO (and I own a set) I would stay away and either go cheaper (Napa, etc) or spend more on a better set.

Just my $.02

I just installed the tokico HP blues on my '94 cobra that already had the eibach pro-kit. The car rides a like a dream and handles very well. I was able to get the struts for 117 shipped and the rears for 96 shipped. I had to order from two different ebay sellers, but it was worth it.

Jt with the suspension upgrades. I pm'd ya. As stated above, I would stay away from the KYBs. I never had luck with those boys. Not on a Stang anyhow. They may not be bad, but for a few bucks more, you get something everyone knows is good and has luck with.

Anyhow, keep us posted....................postmaster

Thank you all for the replies!

Paul, thank you for the links and thoughts. I had looked at those last night myself and they are out of the ol' budget just a bit. However, if KYB's are as bad as some say (one man's soft is another man's harsh, which makes it subjective), I might have to do that. The KYB's are even cheaper than stuff at parts stores here. I was concerned that they were not progressive enough for the stiff, short springs.

Bimmertech, I had checked for Mach One dampers and about as low as a I saw was ~$220 plus shipping. Out of the budget but a great idea. For curiosity's sake, are the M1 dampers different/better/worse than the Tokico HP's?

I might end up doing something stupid like getting HP struts now, and shocks later or something like that. I am not picky but y'all seem to not like the KYB's at all.

Shane, Thank you, as always. PM replied to.

JT, I have KYB non-adjustable shocks/struts (can't remember the actual names), and they ride quite nice with my pro-kit. Sometimes in town can be rough, but usually only on the crappy roads. But I gotta tell ya, on the highways and backroads where the twisties are.......... this guy tells it best!! The ride is smooth, yet real responsive. I love the KYB's. Whoever told that guy they weren't better than stock needs to remove his cranium from his anus.

I know they are probably out of your price range, but I really like my Bilsteins. They ride well, and the car responds great.

BTW, the MM tech line is very helpful with advice on suspension, and I think they carry KYB (or something cheaper than Bilsteins). Your could ask them too.

-edit- Sorry, they have Koni, Tokico and Eibach (along with the Bilsteins).

Chris, thank you for the feedback. That would have been enough to put me over the top I think (I know you so that removes some subjectivity for me). But I dont need to do that - more later.

GRGT, thanks man. Yeah, that stuff is way out of my price range. I go to MM's site to drool, but not purchase. Bil's would be sweet, but no way can I buy those.

UPDATE: Once again, Shane came through. He offered me his like-new HPs at a GREAT price. :Teh-Win: (I dont know what that smiley means, But I mean it in a good way obviously). So I will be installing those for less than KYB's would have cost. A great many thanks to Shane are in order.

Yet another reason to love this site and the kind of people on it - both Chris and Shane have come through to help out with parts for my poor butt.

Of course, as usual with Shane's thoroughness, I now have pics and will have full documentation, tracking number, etc. My hat's off to him.

Howdy.

Time for an update - this is just info. I have to give huge thanks to Shane. The struts and shocks are beautiful and work like a charm. The ride is SO much improved compared to the clapped out stuff that was on there before.

And if anyone ever has the opportunity of transacting with Shane, do IT! Before purchasing, he sent detailed info about the dampers and pictures, and with the dampers came documentation. The exchange was as easy as could be. Hands down the best transaction I have ever had on the internet (Chris's smog pump was right up there too). And I kid you not - I got the nicely packaged dampers within 3 days!

I like to give credit where it is due, and it is due here! I welcome the opportunity to buy more stuff from you in the future. Thanks again Shane!

Thanks for all the kind words. Glad they are working great for you. I was wondering if you had got them on this weekend or not. What you got next on your plate? I know, X-Mas first, but what then?

Keep the great information coming, look forward to talking again. Thanks

Back from the dead!!!

Hey guys .... I'm getting ready to place an order at stangsuspension.com and I just wanted to ask what you guys think of getting these things .....

94-95 H&R Super Sport Springs (1.5" - 2.0")
94-04 Maximum Motorsports Caster/Camber Plates (black one's)
87-93 Tokico HP Strut/Shock Package

You think these Fox shocks & struts will work better than the SN95's?

BTW .... Just wondering here JT. Are you already on your 3rd smog pump?

I had the Bilstein struts and shocks on my old 92 GT and I loved them.
I agree if you have the money get them but, if you don't than don't.

i went the cheap way out:

eibach sportlines $200
energy suspension isolators $ 55
upr 3 bolt 'shark' cc plates $100
04 gt low-mileage shocks/struts $ 75

it does handle well, probably a whole lot better if they were tokico or kyb etc.
