I'm planning on tinting my windows in my 04 GT. I have heard that the tint won't look good on the back window because of all the dots on the top. I also see a lot of Mustangs with the tint in the back window all bubbled up. Why does that happen? Is the back window hard to tint or was it a bad shop they took it to?

mine looks fine in the back , but theey screwed up my other window so I have to go back and get it redone. Just besure they dont mess up if you get it done. I went 20% in the back and then one shade up from the up front.

I had the shop that did mine go all the way up. 2 weeks later it peeled on top of the dot matrix. I just cut it straight across right under the dots and pulled it off. From the outside, you can't tell unless you get really close and look. From the inside there's a bit light strip at the top of course. I'm going to get some black vinyl on the outside to cover it up. I can't decide if I want it to say something or just plain black.

Probably just plain black.

It will not stick to the black dots. It looks white in color but is not that noticeable. Go to a installer that has lots of experence . Ask how long they have been installing tint. I have a 2003 tinted with 20% all the way around except the winshield, and I love my tint. Most installers have pictures of cars they have done. Ask them if they can do anything to help it stick any better around the dotted area . If they guy is experenced it should not peel or have bubles in it. I have had at least 7 cars that I have had tinted and none of them peeled or had bubles. I have had 2 mustangs one was a 98 my current is an 03. Im a big fan of tint. I have been busted only one time and it was several years ago. IMO it is well worth it. Look at my pictures in the first link below in my sig.

I had them stop before they got to the dots. Im going to do the same thing as StngStr and get the black vinyl, but its going to be on the inside not on the outside.

IN my 98GT. They put the black vinyl on the dots w/o me asking. Looked great! Going tomorrow to get my windows done on my 01GT. I will also get them to put vinyl over the pony on the front windshield

The person that had the car before me had the windows tinted and they didn't do the dot matrix so I'm having a vinyl strip put on.

The adhesive thats on the tint doesnt stick to the dot stuff very well at all, which is why it normally looks like crap. You can ask them to just tint up to that point, and then get a vinyl stirip, like everyone else is saying, you can get them here www.decaldriveway.com, they have good customer service.

I didn't do anything to the dots, 35% on the back. looks fine. Hard to tell the top isn't tinted.

I have tint all around the car including the rear window and windshield. My tint shop said it isnt a problem to get the tint to stick as long as they sand the dots down. So one guy lightly sanded them down with sand paper and the tint has stuck with no problems and no bubbles.

On my 98 I have had the tint for over 2 years. They put the black vinyl on mine without telling me. I saw them doing this and he explained to me why it was being done. With the black vinyl and the tint at 5% you cannot even tell between the two. I had quite a few people come up to me asking how the tint stayed. My opinion I would go the vinyl route.

Just ask your shop about how they handle the matrix on the windows. If they look at you funny, leave.
