so, if any of you have been following along, i have a heads/cam/intake swap in the works, but while i'm waiting for my intake and lifters to come in the mail i'd like to do a 3g alternator upgrade (some of my dash lights and aftermarket gauges are pretty dim, and i may be putting a sound system in the car once the motor work is done) my question is...

is there any difference in the way one would wire up a 3g alternator with the high torque mini starter i have in the car? did a search and nothing came up on the topic, i'd just like to get this information or a wiring diagram in advance, i'd greatly appreciate any help you tech gurus could provide, thanks

Chris, I agree that the alt and starter can be thought of as independent.

And Jrichker does have some very nice self-authored diagrams that I'm sure he will post soon (if you don't find them first in a search).

Good luck.

i pretty much just need to know if i have to change the wiring that's already going to the mini starter (it is wired correctly as per instructions from ford racing, bypassed fender mounted solenoid and ran a new 12g wire to the smaller lug) or do i just add the wires from the alt to the starter like the instructions will probably say?

basically will i have to change the starter wiring or just add the new alt wiring??

FWIW, in a mini starter, the fender mount solenoid is not bypassed. It becomes a slave relay for the control side of the starter wiring.

And again, the starter and alt have nothing to do with one another. They will have a shared wiring connection on the battery lug of the fender solenoid, but that's it.
