Anti-lock braking. Good/Bad?

I rarely slam on my brakes UNLESS I'm at a slow speed AND about to rear end some loser. Loss of control is nooo problem. I had an 89 Mustang with out ABS and I did fine.

I have a 99 GT with ABS. It's the first car I have ever owned with 4 wheel ABS. I was unaware and really didn't think about having ABS until last week when I was going to work at 4:30 AM, in the snow. I slid through 3 stop signs trying to figure out how to stop an ABS car! If you have to contend with snow often, and do not have another vehicle to drive, I wouldn't upgrade to ABS. Oh yeah, to stop an ABS car in the snow, you have to drive painfully slow and plan way ahead of every stop!

? you have to drive like that because of the snow, not because of ABS

Dude your lucky you don't have abs (Alot of Bull****) my car has been at the dealer 3 times for it failing...nothing but problems. I wish i could have gotten the car without it. Besides i got cobra front brakes anyways

This is so wrong. The whole purpose of ABS is that a car can be stopped much faster if the wheels are not skidding. Once the tires break lose during a skid the car can no longer exert very much friction on the ground, and it decrease the ability to slow the car down.

As for the car having TC with out ABS, this is another wrong statement. The TC system uses the rear ABS wheel speed sensors to determine if the TC needs to kick in.

ABS is good for daily driving, but it is a real PITA when road or autoX racing. The concept of ABS works on panic stops, but the Ford version sucks a$$ when used for racing. Go out and try some very agressive braking and tuning and you will see what I mean. The pedal goes dead, and the abs pulsing makes the car shake. Well, at least in my experience.

For a street driven car, ABS is always a good thing, unless you were raised on cars without. ABS is a common delete option for cars that spend lots of time on a track; for races, the driver will want to modulate the brakes himself, using a technique called threshold braking, and ABS would only interrupt this. Unless you are a dedicated track star, go with the ABS.

Thanks all for the feedback. Lots of opinions on ABS/TC. Let me throw another question regarding this in the mix. Is there a better aftermarket TC/ABS system for the stang? Of course, I will want to be able to enable/disable the system.

I didn't say you can have trac control w/o abs as an option. i said it can be done. if you read at my thread not once i said it's an option. Like i said ABS is really on the drivers liking, different drivers always have different reaction while braking and skill levels are not all the same

My ABS/TC is deleted. The car came w/ it but I pulled 2 fuses out of the box in the engine compartment. I ran multiple tests braking really hard (not slamming) from 10, 20, 30, 40, & 50 & noticed my car slowed down way better on STOCK brakes. After my test I left the fuses out & my ABS yellow light is always on in my console. I never have to slam on the brakes but as comments above have already mentioned ABS was only designed for emergency stop situations (which I don't have) & TC was designed for retards.

Let me retract part of my comment. TC was designed for either retards w/ weak cars or cars w/ way too much HP. In my case my car's too weak to need TC. & if I wanted TC it would be an adjustable 1 that I wouldn't fathom having installed until I broke the 500HP/500TQ @ the wheels barrier.

So if I read this right traction control can be deleted by simply pulling a fuse? If this is true tell me the fuse, my man!

It can also be defeated by pushing the traction control button below your stereo.

I would first be glad that you don't have T/C or ABS ... they both suck! Adding them onto a car that wasn't originally equipped with it would be very expensive if you ask me. Consider yourself lucky and save your money for better mods.
